I had this conversation with him when looking for a matched pair of diamonds for earrings:

Him: "Look at this, what do you think of these?"
Me: "I don't know, do you have any information on the cut?"
Him: "I think it's Si1."
Me: *facepalm*

So I think I can safely say the 4Cs are a mystery to him.

(He does know that my sapphire is blue, unheated, 2 cts, and eyeclean. He did not know until recently that it was cushion cut, which you'd think would be obvious.)

When we got engaged, he told me the wrong carat weight.
To be fair, he did not buy my stone, his grandmother had given it to him, years before. So, he never had to even think about it.
I've always thought it was crazy that the engineer/math guy got the weight wrong, though.

My DH isn't too bad - he knows that it's an eyeclean antique cushion, between 1-2 carats, and is 'white enough.' He likes to trumpet that Leon made the setting...a detail he actually remembers, so he uses it frequently!
