I had posted earlier about netbooks, but DH could use a gadget that is for surfing the internet only. He doesn''t need a full on computer--but does this even exist? Or is a netbook the closest thing...
Thats what netbooks are, hence the name. You still need a processor and memory to be able to browse the net... so the netbooks are a slimmed down version of a laptop. they have no optical drive, but anything you might need for using the internet.
Not unless he just uses an internet ready phone... which would prob just run you as much. I have a netbook and a laptop... I recommend them, just do your research to make sure you get the best deal.
The best deal on a netbook that has solid reviews/ratings is on the Dell Mini 10v. Still a little more than my budget, but sounds like that''s what they cost.
Like others said there are internet only gadgets but they are pricey and much harder to use than a netbook (think ipod touch). One is a Nokia N810-I think they are about $200.
Techcrunch was working on a tablet type device that was only an internet browser called the Crunch Pad, but their software developer just backed out so that project is dead.
Google is releasing google Chrome OS next year which is supposed to be instead of an opperating system like windows.
It will only function as a portal to the internet (which makes it load much faster), and you will have have to keep all your documents and programs online or "in the cloud" as all the cool kids say.
I imagine you would run google chrome on a netbook.
I just purchased and Asus Eee from Best Buy with a 12" screen for $329. If you get ones with a smaller screen and a shorter battery life, they can run you as little as $250. I love my machine already and it''s perfect for surfing the net. One of my friends swears by her 10.1" Acer Aspire One that she''s had for over a year...and hers runs Windows as the OS, it just didnt'' come with Microsoft Office...just Works...and that''s totally fine if he''s not trying to share the files with anyone...
