I'm looking to purchase a new car and I'm torn between the Chevy Cruze and the Nissan Altima. I'd like a car that is well equipped but I don't want to spend more than $25K. Chevy cars are a staple in my household so I'm leaning towards the Cruze. On the other hand, since the Cruze is a new model, I'm hesitant that it's not a great car. There are pros and cons for both, like I want leather seats and they come standard with the Cruze but I have to pay extra with the Altima. However, the Altima has a push start ignition, which I would really like.

Also, this is the first time I've ever purchased a vehicle (my mom has always been the purchaser), and this car would be fully paid for, not financed, so I'm unaware if the dealer would give a discount for "cash deals".

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ETA: I'm also considering a VW Jetta, however it's not as high on my list.

I know next to nothing about those two models but I would encourage you to look at Consumer Reports for both. They do in-depth testing on all cars and can even give you information on how much you should pay, etc. The only other piece of advice I can give is about the push button start. My mom has one and she's not a fan. It's really touchy and she's always having to re-crank the car in order to get it to turn all the way off if she has tried to turn the car off without putting it in park first, for example. Also, people with pacemakers are told to stay away from and not ride in these vehicles as the frequencies used in the push button start can interfere with the pacemaker. My mother checked, since my grandmother has a pacemaker, and there is no safe place in the car for her to ride which is a huge pain when they come to visit. Sorry I don't have any other advice. Good luck making your choice and definitely let us know what you decide! :wavey:

ETA: I also asked the mods to move this thread to the hangout as it is a much higher traffic area and you might get more responses. HTH!

Re: Does anyone own a Chevy Cruze?? Updated.

I forgot all about this post. To be honest, I actually thought I deleted it.

Thanks Red. I never went to see the Nissan Altima because I guess I didn't really care for it as much as I thought. Then I test drove the Cruz and it wasn't for me; not to mention there were zero incentives to buy. Then there were the Chevy sales people. They were the absolute worst. One fought with me via email, the other one had no interest in helping me and the other dealership never called me back.

Anyways, I always liked the look of the VW CC. So I went to the dealership and found out that the 2012 CC had just come out, 2-3 days before I went in. When I test drove this car I fell in love. So that's what I bought, a 2012 VW CC Lux Plus. It has everything I could possible want and more, including a 'key' that, once in the ignition, becomes a push start. You don't see a lot of them on the road, in my area, so I feel like I stand out a bit. Not like another Chevy or Toyota. Also, when I'm stopped at a light I see people looking my car over with great intrigue. I think I've also lost 2 or 3lbs because I usually park it, what seems like, 10 miles away from everyone else. :)
