would you recommend it? My town will be getting FIOS within 6 months and DH and I are trying to decide whether it would be worthwhile to switch. We currently have satellite (DISH TV) and high speed dsl internet. Is FIOS better in your opinion?

We had FIOS for one week. We hated it. We mostly hated that they put their ''fiber optic'' wires all along our foyer into the living room and then covered it with this plastic casing...looked horrendous. We also didn''t like the options, and that you paid more for HDTV (we were Optimum customers which I believe is similar to Comcast). I don''t know if they still charge more for HDTV, but I wouldn''t recommend them unless you don''t have digital cable options in your area.

We have fios and like it a lot better than the comcast we use to have. We have the HD package which you do have to pay extra for, but we were also paying extra for it with Comcast. We don''t have any visible wires anywhere that I''ve seen. We had problems all the time with Comcast and haven''t had any issues with the fios other than a billing issue at first.

hated it. i switched back to cablevision (which is what we have in nyc).. i didnt see much difference in picture quality, the channel numbers were soooo different (i couldnt remember them at all and with 2 babies didnt have time to read thru the guides) and lastly the deal breaker was the dvr box, didnt work too well..kept doing weird things...cablevision''s box is much better...so we called them to give us a better deal and switched back after a month.

We had Cox and hated it. Bad service, bad customer service, etc etc etc. We have FIOS now and we really like it. I had Comcast prior to Cox and liked it as well. The FIOS internet is really good/fast.

I have FIOS and I love it. It''s much more reliable than Comcast as far as internet goes, and the channels in the FIOS basic package are much better than the channels in the Comcast basic package.

Bia-I think it''s bizarre that they put a bunch of cables inside your house! When the man installed ours, he drilled through the exterior wall by the TV and made a little outlet thing, so we have no weird cables inside our apartment. I would not be happy about a bunch of cables in my apartment, either.

Ditto this. Our installer was fantastic. He essentially rewired our entire house for free and did a really good job of hiding the cables. My one complaint is he ran the external wire a little too close to our neighbor''s roof so we have to have it moved eventually.

I have had FIOS for a little over a year and love it. Much more reliable than Comcast was, imo.

We got FIOS about 4 months ago, and really are happy with it so far. We switched over from Comcast. We are paying about $60 less a month, and have more channels, better picture quality, and faster internet. I would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for your responses. It is good to hear both the good and the bad.

It would definitely be nice to get the extra channels with FIOS. We have dish satellite and though no major problems, everytime the weather gets bad we lose signal (lately it''s been often because of the sucky weather). I''d like to get some additional channels but don''t want to pay the additional $20.00 + /month to upgrade. I checked and these stations, plus more, are part of the basic plan which would be nice. Now all we have to do is wait until they start to run the system in our area. It shouldn''t be a problem wiring our home as we are prewired for dsl (directly wired into each computer) so the outlets/boxes can be used for the FIOS connections. It is just the connection from the street to the house and I hope it won''t pose a problem because we have an in ground sprinkler system.

We have FIOS and we love it. We had Comcast before, and it was awful. In our area, we had no choice but Comcast for the longest time, so when we had the opportunity to try FIOS, we jumped at it. We have no problems with the TV, internet or phone, and in fact I really like the DVR service that we get with our TV. We have away our Tivo after we got the FIOS, and I like it much better than the Tivo.

I've had it since February and it's been great! No complaints at all. I'm in Manhattan (NYC) and had Time Warner and RCN (in the past). Well we changed to Fios because they were offering us more for the same $$ than we were paying RCN. The deal maker was the DVR box..love that I can record something in the living room but see it in the bedroom if I want. LOVE THAT option...ALSO since they aren't a cable company..the taxes are much less...in this day and age with the economy...any savings is GREAT

The wiring thing may not be the case. FIOS uses a different grade of coaxial cable that standard or DSL cable. That's why they rewired my entire house.

We just moved and had FIOS installed. All I can say is WOW. We had Comcast before and subscribed to an HD package, but Verizon blows them out of the water. The images on the screen look 3D, like you could actually reach out and touch the object you''re seeing. It''s amazing. I''m not one who is normally impressed by these things, but wait until you see how vivid and crisp the images are. We got the HD package, internet, and landline for $99/month for one or two years. We were paying $130/month for just HD and internet through Comcast, so we really felt like we got a great deal.
