Does anyone have a Farmers insurance jewelry policy?

We might switch home/auto insurance to Farmers so I'd need to move my Allstate jewelry rider to Farmers' "Jewelry Floater." I'd like to know if any PSers have had to file claims with Farmers and how you felt about the experience. I hope to never have to file a claim but I'd like to know, if I lost my e-ring, what should I expect as far as customer service, timeliness, etc. Thank you in advance!

(Note: I'm interested in the "floater" covg so I can add our watches and non-diamond pieces too - Jewelers Mutual does not cover watches, to my knowledge.)

Urstx, I could not get my Farmer's agent to clearly define what they meant by replacing it with a like diamond. I bought an ACA and he just said it would be the same color, clarity and size. After that I went with Jeweler's Mutual.

Does your appraisal spell put that it's a branded ideal cut?

marcy- That's a good thing to know - thank you for the input. Our appt with the Farmers rep is next week so I'll for sure ask about that. Plan B is to just insure the watches with Farmers and to move the diamond jewelry to Jewelers Mutual - that may be the next route after all.

Niel - my diamond is not a branded ideal cut so the appraisal does not state it. I do, however, plan to have it recut with BG later this year and will get a new GIA report too. I'll make sure the new appraisal lists all the stats. Thanks!

I don't work for farmers claims, but typically the best way to make sure your jewelry or other scheduled amounts of insurance is insured correctly is to provide as detailed a description as possible.

I explained my certificate and branded diamond to my Farmers agent and all he would say is they'd replace it with a like diamond color, carat and clarity. I decided it was a standardized response and wasn't willing to risk it if I ever lost my diamond or ring. I may be thinking the worst for no reason but I felt it was too vague for me.

That makes sense. Specific claims are often something and agent isn't comfortable saying, definitely. The more specific the claim question, typically, the more likely that they need to speak to someone about the hypothetical claim. Most agents, like people, don't know the details of diamond buying. It might be best to calls farmers directly.

We have Farmers but I didn't like their policy so we went with Jewelers Mutual. I think my homeowners policy only cover $1500, which for me is basically nothing. I would like to have a homeowners policy that covered more without appraising every single piece.

Thanks luv! I discussed it with DH last night and the comments on here helped us decide that my diamond jewelry will go on a Jewelers Mutual policy and we'll put the watches on the Farmers Floater.

I know this is an old post, but you might be interested in following my current situation. I have Farmers for homeowners and have a floater for my wife's engagement ring which was stolen in a burglary last Tuesday. The claim is currently being processed. So far, they've been great considering the Thanksgiving holiday hit right in the middle of it. Your post led me to research Jeweler's Mutual, but I will say that their Yelp reviews leave much to be desired. I would not be comfortable with having them as my insurer based on what I've read, especially considering that high-dollar jewelry is ALL they do.

At any rate, I'll update when this wraps up and let you know how it went.

Farmers wouldn't even give us a floater policy. We had them for at least 25 years and never filed a claim.
We switched to Wawanesa and have a 3k standard jewelry benefit. At least that is double what Farmers offers.

Wait, they wouldn't issue you a rider? Did they say why, exactly? Our rider is for $10,000. Probably could have inflated it with an appraisal, but never got around to getting one outside of what was available from the grader. I think that rider was an extra $80.00 a year, give or take.

As for our standard jewelry coverage, it is $2,500. That will more or less cover our other pieces that were stolen, most of which won't be replaced anyway. I'm curious to know why it sounds like your standard jewelry limit with Farmers was only $1,500. That all sounds weird.:???:

UPDATE: Farmers just called back and my ring was valued at $9,485.55 and will be deposited along with the other contents values tomorrow! I think they did an AWESOME job and the whole process has been very simple for what it is.

They said a rider was not available, or that they just wouldn’t do it. I can’t remember which it was, but we have periodically asked since then. No luck. Maybe it’s because of where we live, since each state is often different.

I'm sure it's state related. That's unfortunate. I've been highly impressed by how well they've handled our entire claim, but especially with the engagement ring floater/rider.
