i definitely see how this could be true Mrs. K - sometimes when we constantly pine for the next bigger or better thing we really ARE trying to fill a void in our lives. how interesting though that i never put PS into that category - although to tell you the truth i almost never go to the blingy threads anymore nor have i looked into any new diamond projects since my ER and baby present.

i wanted to wish you lots of luck in TTC!

I also agree that sometimes the diversion is there for the purpose of filling some void. But heck, I''ve got lots of voids to fill: both my kids are in college, one just moved to another city, my DH is away from home all the time, we moved across the country away from all our family, etc.

Whether it is healthy or not I think comes down to finances to some degree. Like any hobby, there are expenses involved in this particular one that are quite high even for the smallest project. For me personally, that means I take a very *long* time deciding whether a project or a wishlist item is really worth it or not. I have seen people here who never seem truly happy, and I wonder about that. But I still support them.

Great topic.

I have watched PSers upgrade and buy, buy, buy often wondering the very same thing. When will enough be enough?

I know there are members here that have lots of disposable income and for them, honestly enough may never come but even then. Surely there comes a point when you have bought enough bands, earrings and bracelets. I am not so well off that I will ever know the answer to that one.

But I have seen many here get sucked in to an upgrading and buying circle and found myself feeling just a little sad that there might be other issues for them.

PS can be an expensive hobby.

Hi,
Hmmm, I can relate to distraction...my love for jewelry started quite young [14] 'upgrade' isn't my motto but have several wedding sets. Let's call it a hobby just like gardening

I don't buy as much though....taste has changed & just don't wear much. Life isn't perfect but, I can honestly say that I'm very content with mine as now. DH is my boyfriend even after

I''m also not well-off to the point of having more jewelry than I can wear, however, I do have more than I can wear of other things (like I do have more than two month''s worth of camisoles in my closet). They hang and are folded in there looking pretty, though I find I often dig through them realizing I''ve forget about half of them. Luckily most of them didn''t cost a small fortune.

well,k I am a jewelry slut--BUT

I am also unemployed and pretty discouraged. This is a nice diversion.

Ive had a unrelenting passion for gems and jewelry since the age of 12.It has gotten me thruogh some rough water over the many years and esecially in the last three years while ive had to deal with multiply huge disappointments in my life, the death of family, and physical pain due to injury and illness.Pricescope has been a great place for me to get away from the everyday disappointments and pain, and be around people who enjoy the same things as i do.Its not easy to find people who enjoy non-stop conversation about jewelry!
