I still do...I can't seem to get myself to buy mp3's the way I do CD's...

I know CD's are becoming obsolete, and I'm gonna try and let go of the need to buy them.

It's like a weird thing that I have the mp3's and burned discs are just not as good as the CD. I think my new year's resolution will be to only buy mp3's. :cheeky:

DH and I both have ipods...somewhere. I like CDs because the only time I listen to anything is at home or in the car. While commuting, I read. And for some reason I prefer to exercise without music.

I love buying CDs! I find that I listen to songs I wouldn't have if I just bought a song or two from iTunes. I don't buy them often since the place I listen to music the most is at work, and I can just load up GrooveShark for free, but I love finding new artists on there and then buying a CD (especially if it's good driving or workout music).

Yup still buy CDs I like having things backed up on some kind of hard media. The computer could fail or mp3 player or whatever you store your mp3s on and you would lose everything. I buy a cd, archive that in our 300 disc changer and burn the mp3s for all the digital media things.

yes, much to my husband the techie's chagrin.

i like the covers, i like handling them. its like books. i'll never have a kindle or such thing despite his urging.

MoZo

Nope. Both my kids got Ipods for Christmas and I'm planning to get one too. I have A LOT of CDs and plan to keep about 20 of them and sell the rest (or give them away). Some I just cannot part with, like the first CD my dad gave me and a few other precious ones...like a double Pixies CD set I have that my DH gave me when I was 19.

Books, on the otherhand, are different. I still collect and read them and have NO desire for a kindle or similar.

Dh is the same way...adios to CDs, but keeping our books.

I just need the $ for the iPod. Both kids got classics. $250 a pop! :errrr:

Not anymore. DD got an Ipod Touch (+ she got iTune cards for Xmas) and DH the Ipod classic. Before the iPods we all had Sansa mp3 players and would burn our cds and download them. We can use the Ipods in our cars to play music which is the reason why DH got his.

Right now we are comverting all our old LPs from the 70's and 80s to mp3 files and downloading them to the Ipods as well. That DH got for Christmas last year.

I get cds still. I am enjoying the 10 bucks a pop vs. 19 that they were a couple of years ago.

I don't buy them often but I still love my cds. I always buy the albums of my favorites.

I buy CDs! We've got ipods but I still ike my CDs

I haven't bought a cd since about 2003, and the last one I bought was Jay-Z's Black Album. ( I googled the release date to figure out how long it had been.)

I have the iPhone, iPod and iPad thing going on in my house...but yes, I still buy CDs. Truthfully, it's always an impulse. I might be on my way to Target, hear a song on the radio I love and think to myself "yep, I must have that"...so, I walk in the store and buy the CD. Most recently that urge hit me with Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" album and while I was there buying it I saw Sara Barrellis new one--so that came home with me as well. It's not all the time, like back before iTunes came into my life...but it does happen.

mp3 has lower audio quality than CD.

It is astonishing that the fidelity of every sucessive format got better since the invention of recorded sound. (except the cassette and 8-track)
Audio quality peaked with the CD.
Now the public is happy with a format that has lower audio quality.
It's weird, like what happend to better sound is better?

mp3 is considered good enough given the ease of now getting . . .  "free"  . . . music.

Use WAV or maybe AIFF, and invest in good headphones. CD quality sound, no pain. If some of the public is unhappy with lower audio quality of mp3s, these people have alternatives.

Of course, the files are huge so your device storage is cleaved rather dramatically.. like storing on a CD, in fact. Except there's only one device to cart around.

I don't buy CDs anymore, and haven't for many years. I do buy books by the basketful and will continue to do so even after I get a kindle.

I'd prefer to purchase MP3s instead for convenience - but will on occasion buy a CD - mostly to get the Artwork that resides within the booklet - with lyrics etc...

As a vocalist ( I am only a release vocalist - I don't really gig ) - 80% of my earnings are from mp3 sales. Also, it doesn't help when you find your albums/songs on every %$&$%*%(* rapid share/free download sites. It's so annoying.

Yeah the world is changing.

I know may under-30-somethings who firmly believe it is their RIGHT to get music without paying for it.
Many even feel they are on a crusade to right a wrong.
They feel they are doing something moral because, . . . "those evil record corporations never pay the artist enough . . . blah blah blah"

Yeah - I guess most of them have NO idea that even if I have a label ( which is pretty BAD ) I still have to pay for several things and get very little in return. Next release which is due in 4 months or so, I am going on my own. I'd rather pay for things I have control over rather than the opposite.

Well, I've decided that I'm gonna try and not buy CD's and see how it goes for me. My plan is to download through itunes, then burn the CD onto a blank disc, so I have a backup. I will only allow myself to buy CD's of artists that don't have MP3 music available.

Amethyste- what type of music do you do? Anything I can check out? I love music!!!

That's what my DH is planning to do. He bought Queens of the Stone Age from itunes and burned it for him and me and then put it on both boys' iPods. We're trying to figure out what else to buy since we have a ton of CDs

That's funny, MC, I love Queens of the Stoneage, and plan to buy the (ahem) MP3 when I get time tomorrow. We'll see if instant gratification is enough to get me hooked.

Hey there Prana -

Even though, other artists here can post pictures of their art (paintings, knitting etc... ) and somewhat "share" what they are into with others through this site, I am NOT allowed to share and post links about my music on Pricescope.

I am though on Facebook, CDBaby, Itunes, Rhapsody etc. Just google my name and you'll find me.
My music is Chillout/Ambient ~ with a Filmatic feel. My vocals range from soft to somewhat operatic...

I hope you give it a listen :) Thank you for the interest :)

The only CDs I buy now are classical, and I bring them to school and play them occasionally. It generally helps my students quiet down while they're working. Oh, and I buy Christmas CDs and we play them at school during the holiday season. I can't remember though what CD I last bought for my own use at home or in the car.

Thanks Amethyste---I'll track you down and give a listen!

Yup. DH always does, I sort of do half and half. really good albums I like to have on CD. Part of it is the car- the iPod adapter just works for crap in the RX8, even if you find a totally static/empty station, it is fuzzy and lousy sound. And my computer is a PITA with regard to burning CDs, the first 8 songs work great but the last 8 skip, always. So, CDs it is. You might test your computer's CD burnign quality before vowing anything drastic

Yep, I do just buy single songs via itunes but if it is a known artist that I like I will buy the cd. Like others said, I find great songs on a album I never would have heard just buying the one song.

My DD is a budding musician and she firmly believes in buying the CD, because the artist gets paid more money. I agree.

I also find that I like the possiblity of accidentally finding more songs that I might like on the "flip side". Remember when the B side of a 45 would occasionally be the hit?

I recently fell for Florence and the Machine based on one song. I bought the Lungs album and discovered that the majority of the songs were good! :appl:

Also, technology is constantly changing, and I have a lot of iTunes songs with the older copyright protection. I'm sure I'll use up my "5 authorized machines", pretty quick. I like the security of a CD.

I often misplace them (I think I've bought a certain Tom Petty CD three times!), but I prefer CD's.

Also, I'm with Kenny; nothing sounds better on a 15 year old Bang and Olufsen than a CD. Why do people want high-DEF TV, but are satisfied with low-DEF MP3's? I'll be checking out high DEF audio soon.
