I am certain that my being a gay gemstone nut does NOT hurt, but HELPS the gemstone industry. I am friends with 99.9% straight guys here in NM, and they really like seeing my new gems They also come to me when they are looking for something for their wives, and MANY times for themselves. The guys here especially like my turquoise matched with yellow gold. So, in short, I think my buying, sharing and wearing gemstones brings more interest... And my knowledge brings smarter people to jewelry stores where they can raise questions to local jewelers that have never been raised before... treatments, certification, etc.

(Apparently I dropped into the middle of a drama thread on a completely different topic. But this is where I gathered that from...)

I'm so very weary of the whole 'what's wrong with PS' posts and threads. There is nothing wrong with people hashing out issues, just as there is nothing wrong with people calling for an end to pretend issues. There is nothing wrong with calling a halt to the flailing and the wailing of manufactured drama.

Frankly, I think it's well past time for us to stop gnashing our teeth and wringing our hands over what amounts to pile o' BS. If it stinks, I say we flush it. And move on.

I assume I'm part of that supposed in-crowd? Wow! I haven't been part of any in-crowd since about the time the song came out... Cool! (I think )

I'm having a really hard time seeing Kenny's "truth" in this thread. He posed what some of us found to be a very silly question -- do we (individually) think that the handful of gay men that post here on PS influence sales in the diamond industry - which I take to mean the worldwide diamond market. Then when some people were honest enough to call that a stupid question, rather than defending or rephrasing or whatever the question, he made not-so-veiled accusations of intolerance. What is the "truth" in that string of non sequiturs? I like Kenny and I appreciate his wit and intelligence, but as I read this thread his accusations of intolerance are totally unwarranted.

It isn't as if Pricescope is some exclusive club that you have to pay to be a member of and there is no social rule list stating that no one can speak out against the crowd. I think you're reaching there. Pie and drinks references are made to alleviate tension in threads...it's hardly about excluding posters or being in some in-crowd. Your post smacks of "I feel excluded and now I'm going to call you all names" (specifically, "hypocrites) and it's just poor form. Also, whether you're a lurker or whether you've been reading for years and just now chose to post, the fact that you chose this particular thread to come in and attack whatever group of people you've defined in your mind as a group speaks volumes of your own character. Part of me stays because I'm unemployed and bored, part of me stays because the drama threads are still somewhat entertaining, and then finally, there are still some people I find very interesting, and I guess I bounce around on here because I'm hoping something worthwhile comes up.

I really don't think that I am. I, of course, respect yours or anyone's right to disagree. I totally believe that no one cares who any PS sleeps with, including Kenny. I also wholeheartedly agree that he misconstrued Holly's comment and took it in a misguided direction. I also don't think he always frames his questions in ways that get to what he wants to discuss (see my original post).

However, for people dittoing Holly's comment to "get over being gay" because sexuality is not a part of her everyday straight life is so seeping in privilege that I have trouble with it. I don't think anyone here cares if Kenny (or anyone) is gay or straight. I do, though, think people have problems accepting that being gay brings differential experiences and opportunity than does being straight.

I tend to agree. I wasn't going to reply, but it's true - it is different for homosexuals. I really really really wish that wasn't the case, but it is. HOWEVER - when you're in an obvious safe place, why try to use it as an excuse to be the victim, when it's clear that nobody was victimizing Kenny to begin with.
