some people hate it and some people love it.

Is OT overtime?

If so, there's no such thing in my job. I work as long as necessary to get the job done.

Same here. I don't have set hours per se. I do start the same time every day but I stay until I am finished. And that varies.

My union rules are pretty strict. Overtime is almost NEVER approved and if it is, it's maybe an extra 15 or 30 minutes tops.

I never volunteer for it. We work 10 hour days, plus 1 hr lunch, which means I'm here 11 hours a day. I dont care if they pay me more money. My time is more important, even if I waste it all online.

My job doesn't have overtime. That doesn't mean that I don't sometimes get home after 7pm

DH has overtime and gets it a lot. He does it out of necessity to get the job done on time, but I love the OT because at time and a half his per hour wage is ridiculous.

Since being at this job I can honestly say I have worked a TOTAL of 8 hours of OT. And that was a special circumstance. Otherwise we're DONE at the same time every day. I recall my first day it was like 15 minutes before we shut down and there were people HOVERING over me to shut down and pack up because it was time to go home. That has NEVER happened to me. I used to leave the agency at like midnight most nights and some nights not at all!

I'm glad I don't get paid OT, because I know I'd feel obligated to get as many hours in as possible. I work quite a bit of OT as it is - there's always something else to do - but I'm not psychotic about it and I don't go out of my way to find extra stuff like I know I probably would if I was getting paid for it!

I hate it right now because i am also in school....but when i am done - bring on the OT!!!!!! :naughty:

I plan on opening a nice little savings acct for all my OT pay for "stuff" heehee.

There's no OT in my job either. If I work 35 hours or 55 hours per week, I get paid the same amount.

I use to work with a guy that was this math genius! He loved to work and a few days before Thanksgiving he said that he wished the office wasn't closed! I laughed and said, well you can work but there is no way I am going to. He loved to work!

I get time x 1.5 at minimum for OT, and I have no life besides work as a single woman over age 15, in a rural town, haha. So I love the OT. Sing: "If you've got the money, Honey, I've got the ti-i-i-i-me, ... (Old Lefty Frizzell song, but I like the Leon Russel honkey tonk version the best.)

Yep, I love/hate it.

I work a 36/48 hour pay period, so I always have 8 hours of OT built in. I work 12 hour shifts, and with lunch built in, I'm there about 13 hours/day. Depending on staffing/needs, sometimes I pick up an extra day. If I pick up a day during my 36 hour week, I get 8 extra hours of OT, and if I pick one up during my 48 hour week, I get the full 12 hours at OT rate.

Usually, I love my personal time more than I love OT. But my built in OT alone can fund a very nice trip for my husband and I every year, so I'm grateful to have it!

I work a LOT of overtime - helps pay for my holidays and jewelry. Heck, it completely pays for my holidays and jewelry. I would say that, on average, I pick up about $2000-2500 of overtime/month, post tax. Most of the time I love it, work on the evenings and weekends is pretty relaxed. But it does mean less time at home (obviously!) and after months upon months of doing it, I get in a snappy mood and hate it. Generally by that time a major holiday (that the overtime has paid for!) is just around the corner so I force my way through to the end reward...5 or 6 weeks of no work at all! :naughty:

Same here too. I could easily work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in my job because nothing is ever "finished" and nothing is ever "enough". The upside is that my time is flexible to a point (so I can work where/when I like, as long as it is all the time ;)) )

We have always used DH's OT for the extras we want. I have always been so thankful that he is able to get overtime as well as for his job.
When I was growing up my mom worked in the aerospace industry and getting laid off was a regular occurrence.

I guess it is a love/hate thing. Love that he can get it, hate it that he is gone for 24 hours, which makes for and least two days in a row that he is gone.

Yup but I'm a workaholic who loves her job :loopy:

We have a billable target of at least 2,000 hours per year, which comes to about eight hours a day of billable work. When you consider non-billable work that must be done, committee and department meetings, eating, and downtime...well, it takes a lot more than eight hours a day at the office! Not to mention vacation days, sick days, and holidays that eat at the number of days you have to meet that rate. I sometimes wish I had a job where I came in at 9 and left at 5 and never thought about work outside those hours, but alas.

HI:

Worked OT yesterday for the first time in years....it is stricly forbidden where I work--required "approval". I volunteered since I had things outside of work close by that I wanted to accomplish after hours...or I might not have been so eagar. No one else wanted to....

Since my job is funded by taxpayers--no OT is allowed and I appreciate that. A year or so ago, there was a pattern of OT resulting in the creation of another position--pretty much solved that OT "problem"....

cheers--Sharon

If I'm getting paid for it, sure I love ot

We work way over 40 hours/week and don't get paid a cent extra for it...so no, I don't like working overtime. But if it were just a few hours and I got time and a half, then I wouldn't mind it.

I do get a bit over working holidays. Obviously I worked Thanksgiving this year, as it isn't celebrated in Oz. But every other year I usually work the "Big Three" - Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Years Day. This year I'm 'lucky' enough to only be working two. I assume I'll be back to doing all three next year.

No OT for my job or for my husband. I often go back to my office on Sunday morning to finish off things, but this the norm for universities here.

I like working OT for the time and a half. Most holidays I don't mind, because I'm not doing anything else anyway. Ones like Thanksgiving isn't usually a big issue because my family lives 5 minutes away from where I work and I am off by 3pm so it's not too late to go and enjoy dinner. When I get older and have more personal responsibilities it will probably change.

When I was single and I got paid time and a half for OT I loved working those extra hours.

Now I am salaried so I get paid the same no matter how many hours I work. I am on call 24 x 7 so I do put in some extra time evenings and weekends when necessary. I generally don't mind it since most of it I can do from home but occasionally I have to go in and then it's not so fun.

I too am salaried, so no extra money. Also, overtime is the norm in my field, especially during tax season. Not sure if I even stop working for 3 months straight.

Salaried, so no overtime for me. But when I was an hourly worker in my younger days I LOVED overtime. The older I get, the less inclined I am to spend extra hours at work, though.
