i wanted to ask this question without hijacking krissie's post below.
i spend a lot of time online looking at dresses and i notice that some sellers online (*bay, craigs, etc) are not truthful to the purchasing price or quality of the dress.

i.e. they state "new without tags" and it turns out that they wore the dress to their wedding; price of the "sample" price they paid is the actual price (if not more) of the dress, etc.

as i plan to sell my dress after my wedding, this makes me wonder: is misrepresenting the only way to fetch the price i want? does everyone lie online? am i being paranoid? (i mean, i sold my other dress online but i bought it really cheap and sold it half the price i bought ... so, there wasn't much emotion involved ... whereas, i think about my real wedding dress and can't help but wonder).

what do you guys think?

I made sure to be 100% honest when listing my dress. I said that it was a sample and had original tags attached. I even mentioned the one tiny spot where the netting is pulled away from the zipper and included photos of that.

no! don''t "misrepresent" (a.k.a. lie) -- not a good idea!!

Yeah, I was totally honest in mine too, maybe too honest since it hasn''t sold!! Better to be honest than deal with someone filing a complaint about you to Ebay and them making you refund their money...

don''t get me wrong. i intend to be honest when selling my dress in the future, the way i was completely honest with the dress i recently sold (even though i knew that i can get more money by omitting few details).

i guess it just bothered me to see some sellers lying and was wondering if the whole cyberspace was that way--whether you''re a one time seller or merchant ... or if it were the few that made everyone look bad.

I buy ebay once in awhile. I personally would never buy a big ticket item from anyone that was a first time seller. Or even close to it. Always better to be honest than not in my opinion. Just think if you were on the recieving end of that lie. Does not feel very good.

I was totally honest in mine. I was a three dress bride and sold 2! (Didn''t sell the one I wore, but didn''t list it) So NO not everyone is dishonest and you don''t need to be to sell a dress.

I try to be honest to a fault in mine, but it probably is off-putting to buyers. I once had this really weird buyer who made a claim out of left field at me, which is probably why I really try to disclose anything and everything. That said, I do believe I have sold everything I have ever listed on ebay, but maybe have made less $$ than I would have if I had lied!

FWIW, all of the ebay wedding dress sellers that I have seen seem to be really honest in their listings.

Don''t lie. It''s fraud, fraud is bad.

Even if it gets you a better price, wouldn''t you feel a bit guilty knowing the person didn''t get what they thought? I would. Don''t worry it will work out!
