Clearly zillions love Twitter.

A US president communicating directly in this way is new.
Previously communications were carefully measured, often by staff, often conveyed by staff, and reached us only via media.
I'll bet there was a brohaha when radio replaced newspapers, and another when TV replaced radio as the way the public got their info and news from sitting politicians.
Technology marches on ... and we adjust.

Maybe there is an upside to citizens getting instant and unfiltered thoughts directly from their pres.

This thread is not about Trump himself.
It's about the president using a communication technology that cuts out all the middle-people & media corporations.
I see upsides and downsides.

So, overall, do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thing?

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

It's hard to put a rating on it, but I think that overall, it's good. He has not surrounded himself with good and competent people as many thought he would, and there are a lot of lies coming from the WH. I think it's best the public know his unfiltered thoughts.

If we're talking about how embarrassing it is as a country on a scale of 1-10, we've sailed past 10...but that's a different matter.

Twitter is like a long piece of rope he will eventually hang himself with. Why get in his way?

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

I think the president communicating directly is an awesome thing.
I would think that no matter who was president.
However that does not mean I always agree with the content, or what is tweeted about.

I have never been interested in an interpretation/spin of someones comments I want to read/hear them myself.
Even before the internet I would hunt down transcripts or watch it when I could, the internet made it so much easier.
Carter was president the first time I realized what the media was doing.
I listened to one of his speeches then the next day read in the local paper a totally twisted version of what he said.
I was 8 or 9 at the time.

I think it's pretty great. I see no reason NOT to allow a president to communicate via this medium. It's a peek behind the curtain, for one, and I'm guessing it reaches more people due to retweets and shares on other social media. I look forward to less crazytrain when our next president is elected, and hope that it's less trash, more class.

Trump's tweets are like watching terrible karaoke or that wedding toast given by the drunk guy who rambles on and everyone sits there wondering who will be the brave soul that finally wrenches the mic from his grasp.

Again this poll is not about liking Trump himself, his cabinet, or the content of the tweets.

It's about the technology.
Twitter is a massive change in how info gets from the president to the citizens.
Twitter bypasses all the in-between people and media corporations.

That's a big deal.

Twitter is a great tool for communication when put in the right hands. :halo:

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

Hi,
\
I doubt any other President, even if he loved twitter would give us his thoughts without having them polished by someone else, unless it was to say Happy New Year, or some such neutral expression. This is equivalent more to an ink blot test . I cannot separate the Pres usage from the technology. I want him to continue, so we may monitor his mental health. His impulses are what we must keep an eye on.

He may still do decent things, but lets keep an good eye on him.

Terrible idea. Just be presidential.

Agree!

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

I am ok with the idea of it. Our current one just sucks at it.

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

Overall, I think its fine. In general, I like that hes embraced technology. I like that such a high position can be relatable to everyone, and easily accessible in a way. Obviously he should not be tweeting WHAT he is tweeting, but I don't see an issue with using the platform.

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

I don't mind that he tweets, but I do wish that he had some sort of filter (like the kind that tells you what to say out loud and what not to). I think that I would actually prefer that he have someone take over his Twitter account - someone who is polished, professional, thoughtful, well-mannered, etc.

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

I have no issue with the POTUS tweeting. The content is about on the scale of a 13 year old so that could use some work....

Re: Do you feel the US president tweeting a good or bad thin

No issues with Twitter as a media to get his message out. The delivery of the message (the tone, the caps, the non-filter), however, leaves much to be desired.

I answered the question as it applies in the here and now. I feel that Donald Trump's tweets are a compromise to the security of our country.

A more level headed, caring president's tweets might be a good thing.

I completely agree with House Cat.

I also completely agree with House Cat. Had Obama used twitter it would not have bothered me in the least. I find the current president tweeting very upsetting!
