Do you eat "traditional" meals?

No offense, but I think I would have smacked him on the head with a frying pan at that point (speaking as a Korean woman, ahem ;)). I like to cook (sometimes) and I love to bake, but I'm not talented in this area, and I would have a serious problem with a "traditional" type of guy. But, good for you for making that quiche from scratch! That's awesome!

And nope, I don't eat traditional meals unless I'm home. I really don't cook. I hope this changes later. I don't want to be eating take-out forever!

Oh trust me, he sure got a piece of my mind. In fact I believe he got a piece of the quiche in his hair....'cos I put it there.

LOL! Good for you!
 :appl:

We eat pretty traditional meals, and on top of that, I make dinner every night. We only eat out about six times a year, if that. I've asked my husband if we could have breakfast for dinner many times, and he never thought it was a good idea..... Booo! I really wouldn't mind some fruit, a nice omelette and some potatoes on the side, especially on hot summer nights when I don't feel like cooking a full dinner or eating anything too heavy.

I work nights, and am comfortable eating any type of food at any time of day!

Sometimes I'll have breakfast before work at 5pm, sometime's it's dinner. When I get home at 8am, sometimes I'll make a bowl of pasta. Or cereal. Depends on my mood and tiredness level!

Oh, and DH and I sometimes have pancakes or eggs for 'dinner'. I love breakfast anytime. Yum!

Good for you! I always knew Korean men have much more old fashioned gender role view than Taiwanese or Chinese men. I did not realize they can be picky about food as well!

I once went out to dinner with two Korean and one American colleagues, all men. The two Koreans asked me in the middle of dinner "does your husband no mind that you eat outside and not cook for him? How will he eat tonight"? I had to pick my jaw back up from the floor first and then told them "my husband has plenty to eat and he is perfectly fine without me at dinner time".

Well, I am not big on eating breakfast. I'm kinda like a zombie in the morning and it takes me a little bit to wake-up. I do like to make breakfast for dinner sometimes though. I would say I eat pretty traditional meals. I nearly fell over when I read mac n cheese for breakfast. 8)
Do any of you eat weird combinations? Like my FI eats the weirdest foods together and doesn't get why I'm like "What are you eating?!" He doesn't get the protein+starch+veggie plate either. He could do a plate full of meat or a plate full of all starch. Mashed potato and rice, why not?

I'm Cantonese, so yeah, I often eschew "traditional" American meals. Some of them, though, are quite traditional to a Chinese family!

On top of it, my DH and I don't have kids, so that also means dinner can be quite a free-for-all "let's scrounge whatever" sort of thing if we're both tired after work.

Yes, we have traditional meals. I plan what I'm going to cook in advance. Sunday is generally the most traditional because we're both used to the huge after church Sunday dinner thing because we're from the South. However, I have something planned for every night, even if it's takeout. I don't think breakfast food is a non traditional meal, we have it on occasion.

I'm not a huge fan of american breakfast foods, especially in the morning. I eat non-traditional breakfasts way more than I have say breakfast for dinner. It's breakfast time here and I'm eating fried potstickers. My ayi made some yesterday (and my driver also brought some that are a different meat) and when they're cold in the fridge is the best time to fry them up and they are even better than the first time :)

I hate eating a lot of bread on an empty stomach... I need a heavier meat laden morning. I feel so sick if I just eat a bagel or something. Can't eat donuts in the morning either. Eggs I can get by... pancakes WITH bacon. I can't just eat something with carbs until the afternoon.

you're so nice :) My poor husband wouldn't get the option lol COOK'S CHOICE RULES! lol I am occasionally kind to him and make him things he likes that we don't, but it NEVER stops me from making things he doesn't like...

I do like rice and corn mixed together (since I was a little kid) but I only give half of each because they are both starches. Corn doesn't count toward veggies! It counts toward potatoes!

Well, when DH is out of town I usually end up eating popcorn in the family room. Sometimes I wear my wedding gown and veil while eating my popcorn, too, and I'm usually watching When Harry Met Sally. It's my "on my own on a weekend night" tradition. I love it. :cheeky:
oh this is so quirky and fun! I love it!!!

I can pretty much eat anything at any time. I can have dinner foods for breakfast, and breakfast foods for dinner. For me, it all just depends upon what I'm craving - not what I'm *supposed* to be eating any any given time. I will also sometimes eat four small meals instead of two or three larger ones, or I will have just rice or just potatoes for dinner.

My FF is the same as me when it comes to eating breakfast at any time of the day, but he thinks it's weird of me to sometimes just have a side dish as a meal. I guess I'm crazy, but my mom is like that, too. She also sometimes just has ice-cream or cake for dinner. I don't do that, but probably only because it makes me feel sick.

First I just have to say your puppy looks like a gremlin (the nice version) in that picture!!! Adorable!

I would like to move to a 4 meal a day schedule and I know my kids would like it too... they are SO hungry when they get home at 4pm but they're hungry again later... if I push dinner to 6 they suffer and pester.

I once heard to eat like a king for breakfast, a queen for lunch, and a pauper for dinner... but to me I prefer lunch being the biggest meal of the day. Not that I have any sort of special lunch traditions. I usually end up with dinner being THE meal but I'm not thrilled with it. I was reading this thread and wondering if I could get a 4 meal day to work here.

I will eat cake as part of my meal... just cut out the potatoes! I don't eat it WITH the meat, per se.

I always thought it was silly when people would wonder why someone would have cake and diet coke and the answer is because they want the calories in the cake but need to shave off the ones in the coke because they're less important to them.

LOL! Good for you!

And this is why my K mom told me I could never a "traditional" K guy...she knew I'd be throwing more than just food at the poor guy's head...lol

For the K-gals, do you eat soup with your meals? My mom still makes soup to go with lunch and dinner.

As for the actual topic...I admit - I do love breakfast for dinner.

Traditional meals? Nope. I rarely eat breakfast, a salad or a boiled egg and toast for lunch, whatever for dinner.

Usually yes, but not always. DH will rarely eat breakfast before work, but on the rare (1-2x monthly) that he does, he will eat leftovers - usually something very meaty.

I cannot eat protein/eggs/traditional american breakfasts for breakfast. I've tried, many times, but those breakfasts irritate my stomach something fierce! I have to have a carb base first thing in the morning - toast, cereal, fruit, or a combination thereof. On weekends I'll cook DH poached eggs, bacon, an omelette, french toast... and then I'll pour myself a bowl of wheat cereal. Drives him nuts. :cheeky:

When our kids were small we always had traditional meals, I do not think breakfast is non traditional though and we would often have breakfast for supper, now that they are out of the house it is sort of a free for all, my dh loves meat and potatoes and is a much better cook then I am so he most often makes his own meal of starch and meat, his version of a vedgie is corn??? and I work nights while he works during the day so only on days off do we eat together. Right now I am on a dairy and fruit kick, I have been eating grapes and a mild chedder for the last week for supper and the week before it was cottage cheese and peaches numm, I also have fresh tomatoes right now that are so freakin awesome so it has been tomatos and toast for breakfast the last 2 weeks or sometimes I put the tomato with cottage cheese. My dh can't understand how I can call that a meal and I can't understand how he can eat a slab of meat with potato everyday???
