Do you cook with hot peppers and wear contacts?

If so, do you take your contacts out before you cook? Or use some sort of special soap on your hands afterwards?

I don''t use hot peppers all that often, but whenever I do, I can''t get the pepper residue off of my hands, so when I take my contacts out at night, it burns a bit, and then when I go to put them in again the next morning after cleaning and rinsing, they hurt too much to wear and have to be thrown out.

I will either wear gloves or use saran wrap to handle the peppers. I learned my lesson getting pepper juice in my eyes ONCE, and since I have been very careful.

I think that lemon juice helps remove the pepper oil if you do get it on your hands.

The hottest peppers I use are jalepenos. No matter how many times I wash my hands I can''t get the hottness off so I have to be careful not to touch my eyes at all. I try to only handle the peppers with my left hand, so at least my right is clean.

I use disposable contacts (I don''t wear them every day either) so I''ve never tried putting them back in the next morning. I can imagine they wouldn''t be comfortable though! It''s really tough to get that hot pepper oil off your hands.

I would invest in some latex gloves maybe.

don''t know about contacts, but this past Memorial day weekend, I
was making "Poppers" but using poblano peppers. No gloves, who would have thought
poblano''s (sp) would create a burning HLL on my hands. My hands burned like a
torch was being held to them for hours and hours. I tried everything, I
Googled info and tried all that, nothing worked until my neighbor
insisted I try Aloe Vera (fresh from her plants) Within 10 minutes, the
pain was gone. But who knew poblano''s would do this......
