Do you act your age?

Probably not. I'm 37 and totally irresponsible. The ONLY two mature things I do include keeping up with laundry and having the house stocked with food. Other than that, I flake out on everything. Never balance my check book or all that other grown-up stuff.

(Oh, and I probably post like I'm 25 or something because I never think about what I'm posting. . .just ramble away.)

im 32.

i have a very serious job, and compensate for that by acting like a moronic kid on PS!

Karl I''ll guess your age.

That was 12 years ago.

What month do/did you turn 40 this year Karl?
nov. 2009 im almost 41 yikes!!!!

I am 40 and don't think I act my age. Well not 40 as I remember it as child or teenager. Perhaps that is just a young persons perception of an older generation.

I still love to do all the things I did as a teenager/20/30 year old. Only this time round I am confident in my own skin, I know and understand the ways of the world and have a lot more cash than I did then.

To counterbalance that I have a husband and a 4 year old and an inablility to drink the way I could before 7 am rises to watch Bert and Ernie!!

Well, most of you are younger than I thought. But then, I tend to feel like I''m really young around here, and that everybody is older and wiser. I have no idea what age I ''post'', but I turn 24 this month.

That basically sums up how I felt! I felt that way about Monarch; she''s very insightful, and modest and funny. I think I also assumed that the cute kid in her avatar was hers, but I think that its actually her niece. (Monarch, I hope you don''t mind that I called you out!)

When I was in the 6th grade, my teacher said I was 12 going on 85 ... and an 85 year old deacon, at that!

I read a lot as a kid (still do, for that matter), so my vocabulary was a bit out of the ordinary for a child. I joke that I haven't really changed at all ... it's just that what's appropriate for a 31-year-old college professor wore weirdly on a pre-adolescent! Then again, when I took a part-time position among Normal People* earlier this year, my vocabulary seemed weird enough to them that they could not Let It Go. So I'm guessing I still come off as older than I am ...?

*ETA: by which I mean, in a non-academic setting. The only thing my fellow academics tend to twit me about are my diamonds or my shoes ....

I am 53 and absolutely do not look it. I also have a 17 year old which makes it easier for others to assume I am younger.

I definitely do not act my age...whatever that means. How is a 53 year old supposed to act? I roller blade with my dog tagging along, do cartwheels on the lawn (maybe that''s why my neighbors give me strange looks!) and can climb my maple tree. Do you know many 53 yo that can do that?
YouTube link please.

I''m 28 - I''ve always acted/felt older than my peers even from a young age - particularly re: gossip and drinking/partying. But I can also be really silly :)

I''m 28. Some days I feel a lot younger, others I feel my age. As for the way I post...I have no idea.

I have no idea how old I come across here on PS but I''m 36. I feel a lot younger though. I feel behind many of my friends who have kids and who have been married for a long time (I got married at 34 and don''t have kids).

You kidding DF! My DH thinks we can sell tickets and make a fortune.

Unfortunately, can''t do this right now since I am still healing from surgery. I did try a one armed cartwheel the other day and landed on my ______ (filll in the blank).

Haha, no problem IndyLady. Flattery will get you everydarnwhere...as they say. Yes, that is my crazy niece in my avatar, hamming it up for the camera. *whistles* Who knows where she gets it?

Um, I don''t know if I act or post my age or not. I guess I used to be more concerned with decorum but in recent years I care a lot less...so I think I''ve started to type more of my actual thoughts and word posts as I would speak in real life instead of thinking things out very carefully and worrying about how appropriate they are? I''ll be 33 this month. Yikes! When I was in college I remember thinking first that 25 was old, and next that my 31 y/o instructor seemed ANCIENT. She dressed and acted kind of ancient though, so that thought was well deserved. LOL

Yes and no? I''m 28. The age range of my friends is 24 to 45. I still go out dancing with my friends but I''m also a homeowner who thinks ahead to retirement.

Monnie--I always thought your avatar photo was YOU as a baby!
She''s adorable.

Thanks Haven! Our baby pictures are very alike--I will have to scan one of mine sometime and post ours together on that "clone" thread.

No. I am not Mom or Grandma, I am single, and I don't have to worry about behaving to any standard just because, well, as a matter of fact, I do not have to be a role model, nor do I answer to anyone. Every day, I look at the middle aged small town moms here and I think: Thank G** I'll never have to live that mundane life as everyone's household servant.

Uh...so what does being a mother or grandmother or a servant or living in a small town have to do with the topic of this thread?

I just moved out of my small hometown again after 2 years and while it was no picnic, I wasn''t STUCK there and didn''t have to just suck it up and sulk and be bitter about it constantly, which is what I hear from the negativity in LIKE ALL OF YOUR POSTS. Perhaps it''s time to finally admit that the problem isn''t everyone else on earth, but YOU?

Ditto porridge. I can perhaps see a correlation between HVVS'' age and people assuming she should act like other women her age who are often mothers and grandmothers, but her delivery was out of line.

Sure HH...I can see where one could draw that conclusion (you know, in a curvy random meandering line)!

HI:

You don't have to be of a certain age or married, to act like a mean ole person. Sorry did I say that out loud?

SNORT! (Why do you always make me do that, canuk?)

I definitely act older than I am. My friends all joke that I''m 22 going on 40. I think I just take after my mom with always being very responsible and over prepared which I guess is commonly associated with maturity. I get the "Ok, Mom" response from my friends at times because I always point out the potential consequences of their less intelligent ideas. I don''t really mind though.

SO definitely helps to keep me acting my age. In reality he''s very mature but he acts like an 8 year old on a sugar high around me.

I bet people at work who don''t know me as well would prolly guess me to be mid 20''s or so.

I think I'm finally starting to! I'm finally realizing there is a certain freedom of being a childless, mortgageless 25 year old and I should enjoy it while I can
1.gif

Never, ever act my age. Well, if I''m lazy or don''t want to do something, I drop the age card.

My point is: No, I don't have to act "my age." I have the freedom and the drop dead money to tell people to drop dead. There is nothing "old" about that. There is nothing "mean" about that. It's independence, and achievement, but not without costs, I'll admit. Children, debts, having to do endless household chores, having to be the household servant, having to always account to someone, conform, act a certain way, serve, serve, serve, serve: People grow out of that at some point in life. I just happened to do that sooner than most women. If you are unhappy with your other life, remember that you are the one who signed up for it.

I''d really stop wasting so much time getting all worked up about how unhappy you think everyone else must be.
