DNA Ancestry tests

Has anyone done My23 or AncestryThroughDNA? Curious to see what you thought! I thought it might make a fun present for my extremely hard to shop for/returns everything mom.

I've done 23andMe which has some similarities but primarily seems to be for health/genetic conditions. I think it's a good gift if you want to know what conditions and diseases you are at higher risk for. However, if you are of the "ignorance is bliss" mindset, then probably not what you're looking for. I can see how it would cause some people to be more nervous about their future.

The test indicated I have a higher than average chance of developing a heart condition.

I did the ancestry one. I've met a few new cousins based on the test but I have at least 200 matches where there is no common name between us. I have no clue how I am related.

They do women now? Super. Originally they would only do them on men who have the name in question; I couldn't see either of my brothers going for it.

I think it's a neat present for your mom if that's one of her interests. Really thoughtful & unique. And she can't send it back!
