I have had a cave cricket "infestation" around my washer and dryer, and I think under my furnace, for the last two summers. I have sprayed, I have set glue traps...they KEEP COMING BACK and don't really ever die til winter. I brought a rusty can of home defense down there this morning to try to kill the first one I saw, bec I kept forgetting to buy it and go down there last month before they all came back...I am calling in a pro this time I think, before I have a f'ing heart attack trying to wash my clothes down there.

Blehhh! I hate infestations! My sister in law keeps getting carpet beetles even tho they have sprayed and bombed and done everything possible! They keep coming back.
I get earwigs! I hate them so much...

Have you tried getting to the source? Maybe a hole somewhere?
My aunt kept getting wasps in her house. Wasps! And we found that there was a tiny tiny hole in her ceiling that they were coming from.

I *think* they come up the drain in the basement which is next to the washer and where my washer drains.

I feel your pain. We had the exact same problem. Then my brother found the hole they used to get in, closed it up, and this year it's much better. I hope you can find a good solution too!

I don't know what cave crickets are, but they sound horrible. Here's hoping they depart the scene quickly - dust for you, Ame.

That does not sound nice. Did your Cadbury's arrive yet? I would sit somewhere you can't hear the crickets and just eat the whole package.

I have never heard of Cave Crickets either so I just did a Google Image search.... EEK! They are freaky! I'm not afraid of bugs but those just look

They are FREAKY. Before I figured out what they were I thought they were spiders. I would never get close enough to figure out! But one went jumping at me one day and as I am running around screaming like a psycho in the basement, DH is upstairs laughing his ass off. So much for protecting and all that lololol

I think we might need to dismantle the sink and replace that drain grate or something. I THINK that's where they're coming from.

not yet, unless Dh has stolen the package lol

Hmm. How big are these crickets? Could they carry a big parcel?

Nasty bugs :angryfire: :errrr: Hope you're able to evict them quickly!

OMG, I hate bugs so much, I would be freaked out Ame! I don't know what they are, but I don't want to google because sonnyjane scared me. :errrr: I hope you can find some way to get rid of them. We have silverfish ;( so I can relate.

Spare yousrelf the nightmares and do not google lol! My parents have silverfish, ew!

Jennifer: they aren't strong enough. I am hoping today :)

I don't know what these are...I was imagining little crickets with wings...but, googled, and found the following from a website: "However, should a cave cricket infestation become a problem in your home, it is important to locate and eliminate all possible breeding conditions. Piles of damp wood or leaves in or surrounding the structure should be removed. Outdoor lighting should be changed to sodium vapor bulbs. The basement or crawlspace should be kept ventilated and dry, as these conditions prove unlivable to cave cricket populations. Screens on crawlspace vents and basement windows can help to keep these crickets out."

You mentioned your parents having silverfish. Basically, it's a situation of there being an environment those bugs LOVE to live in. You can spray all you want, but you need to eliminate what is causing the moisture or whatever it is they like to ensure they don't come back. Sometimes I would find a weird looking bug in our last place and kept wondering what kind it was. After we moved, we no longer saw them. My son was looking through a bug book and came across it and sure enough, it was one that likes moist a environment. We don't have any moisture in our new home so we haven't seen the bug since!

MC, good advice. In our case, though, we unfortunately can't figure out where the moisture is coming from, since we constantly run fans after showers/baths and we don't have any standing water on our property anywhere, nor is the house humid. It's so frustrating! We don't want to call an exterminator because we're worried about the stuff they spray being safe for pets and small kids.

Had them, just like you, couldn't do laundry either!! We put duct tape over the drain on the floor and that helped but I think what stopped it was when we went around the entire home and sprayed with that SPRAY FOAM that expands and then u cut off excess after it dries with a knife. It fills up gaps under the house. Try doing that too.

After a while we took duct tape off drain so that bec didn't want any possible flooding to not go into drain.

Ohhhhh. That may be a start. I went down there last night and we had a fatality. I had sprayed more of that home defense stuff and it must finally have worked. I found a site that is like ask the exterminator and he sells a few of the products he recommends. Maybe I'll go do the duct tape thing and then put down some borax...
