Did you use a travel agent for honeymoon?

So when planning your honeymoon, did you use a travel agent or just winged it yourself?

If you were to plan a foreign and/or multiple-location honeymoon would it make more sense to use one?

undecided here, but I''m so particular about what I want, that I usually plan all trips myself, even the foreign multi-location ones -- and it''s always worked out well. The thing is you HAVE to do a lot of research --- and it takes time -- lots of planning. Never get there and "wing-it" -- instead have at least a loose day-to-day plan. I spent two weeks in Amsterdam and France, driving for 8 days in France, and I planned what cities/towns I would stay in each night with an idea of what to do each day. We tweaked a few things along the way and it was perfect. BUT I RESEARCHED LIKE CRAZY. I learned about the quaintest towns, the best cathedrals, the most scenic routes, the best restaurants, the oldest abbeys -- all online, and I made the hotel reservations well in advance, then double checked them again about a week before we went.

Normally, I do plan trips on my own with plenty of research, as the previous poster does. In this case, however, we''ll be letting a travel agent handle the particulars. We did research on where & what kind of place we wanted to stay, and we''ll let her do the rest. Of course, time is an issue for us. Having only 7 months to pull a wedding together... well, if I can have someone else handle that aspect, it makes me a little less stressed.

Unless you have planned several trips on your own without problems, I would suggest using a travel agent for your honeymoon. It is one of the more important trips you will take and it helps to have someone experienced helping you out along the way. Especially if you encounter problems mid-trip. If you had planned the trip yourself you would have nobody to turn to for help.

Since most travel agents do not work off personal commisions you should be able to get a fair price. Agencies get commisions from the airlines, hotels, etc., and pay the agents an hourly wage. Shop around with different travel agencies to compare prices and see who will give you the best deal. Sometimes shopping for a vacation can be almost as daunting as shopping for diamonds.

Time is also a factor for us as the wedding is approaching in 4 months!

We've never really planned a lengthy vacation... actually we've never really been on a real vacation ever. We've planned day trips, but that's about it. Tackling a foreign based honeymoon is kinda scarey.

What do you all think of cruises? There this one we're kinda looking at, it's on a large yacht type boat, not cruise ship. I'll find the link and post.
