I haven''t heard about this one yet but it seems like the drop side cribs are always getting recalled. That was one of the main reasons for my choice to not get one with a drop side and I''m short. I hope none of our moms are affected by this. It''s always something...

I was thinking the same thing - they get pulled a lot, and I would kind of like to have one since I am only 5''2". I think I am going to get one of the Ikea ones where the base can be raised up when the baby is smaller so you can reach them more easily.

We have a convertible crib but I remember growing up with drop down sides. I didn''t even realize that not all cribs were drop down until we went crib shopping.

I have a convertable drop site crib, and it was actually recalled at the time I purchased it in January. They just sent new bolts and it was fine. I wonder what this will be for though.

I''m 5''7", and haven''t used the drop side at all for my 9 month old. The crib isn''t on the lowest setting yet though, and he''s only 19 pounds, so it hasn''t been an issue. I probably would have been fine without the drop side.

Glad I don''t have a drop down side. Crib recalls are a PITA at least it was when my neighbor''s was. She couldn''t use her cribs b/c they made her send a piece in to prove she had one of the recalled models.

I have one, but it was a Bonavita handmedown. Honestly, it''s made so well, I am not worried about it. But if I didn''t get the crib, I would have bought one that wasn''t drop side. A crib is something that I would not skimp on.

when i was shopping recently it seemed like most companies that used to make drop side classic models were launching non drop side slightly lower railed ones in 2010. the downer about the lower railed non-drop side classics is that the kid seems like it can grow out of it faster esp if they grow taller. yes the cribs go up and down 3-4 levels but it seems like the life of the crib is shortened without a drop side.

that said, we still went without a drop side, classic model, the pb kids one, and i am glad we don''t have to deal with a drop side. most of the reviews on drop sides i read said that it almost always was not sturdy seeming enough, and it seemed like most of them rattled slightly and half the people never even used the drop side since it made a noise when clicking in and would wake the baby. most of my friends who had drop sides didn''t like them.

so i am perfectly happy with a non drop side classic model even if the kid might outgrow it a little faster, esp if it converts to a toddler.

Me and my daughter shared the article today. I am not a fan of drop side cribs and always allude to the "genius" safety people who dreamed that up.

As a Safety/Risk Manager these things drive me nuts.

I hope everyone stops manufacturing them.

Thanks for the info, Fiery. We also went with a crib without the dropside. I had one with my first son, and it was a pain to use. I am on the taller side, so I never bothered using it. Then I saw the crib was recalled after we had given it away, so this time I just tried to save the hassle and get one without it.

Yup, that''s the brand I have

. DH and I looked at it last night after watching the video on the news. I don''t know how they were able to get the doll shoved in there, but I can barely fit my hand between the mattress and the rails! The only way we thought it possible to get stuck would be if the drop side had been lifted up off the track and popped out, or if you had a very thin/small mattress. I''ll send for new hardware to be on the safe side anyway though.

I have no idea what brand of crib I have for grandbaby Veda. It was given to me by her SIL who got it as a gift from my daughter MIL. I have checked the crib and can''t find a name or stamp or any other identifying mark to determine if it is a recall crib or not. It''s frustrating because it does have plastic tracks for the drop down mechanism and I suspect it''s one of the recall cribs. My only support for my suspicion was the bad feeling I got when I worked the crib for the first time. I didn''t like it.
