were they all from your registry or were there some one off gifts?

FI and i did not want to register but my cousin adviced us that we should otherwise, i might receive random gifts like she did that she was not able to return, how did it turn out for you?

(ok, hopefully i didn''t sound like an ingrate with this post, i of course appreciate the thought someone put into buying us a present but what if i don''t want a secondhand broken can opener?)

We registered for things we truly wanted, so we kept almost all of the gifts.

We did return the towels, because DH decided after using one that he didn''t like their absorbency. We then went through three other types of towels before DH realized that he did, in fact, prefer the ones for which we originally registered. So, in the end, we repurchased all of them, anyway.

I was a patient woman.

We also returned this fabulous set of green mixing bowls from Crate & Barrel because we were also given a set of stainless steel mixing bowls, and we didn''t think we needed two sets. The stainless bowls were nicer, but man did I love those green bowls.

We were given some fabulous off-registry gifts, and we kept every single one, I believe.

So far, DH and I have kept everything we''ve gotten. And, most of the things we''ve gotten were indeed from our registry, so they were things we needed/wanted. There were a few exceptions such as a few hand-made gifts and then a few things like picture frames and such that were completely unique gifts...but we loved those, too! There''s only one thing I''m thinking of ''returning'' and, actually, I''d like to EXCHANGE, not return them...is that we originally registered for towels in one color, but then decided to completely change our color scheme in our bathroom, so we''d like to exchange the colors we chose (and received) for another color instead. Other than that, we''re keeping (and loving) EVERYTHING! :) Of course, this doesn''t mean we''ve USED (or even unpacked) everything....LOL. We''re hardly unpacked from the move itself, let alone gifts!! LOL

Let me ask one more question, if it''s okay....what was everyone''s FAVORITE gift that they received? I know this is a really hard one because probably ALL the gifts were wonderful, but can you think of one thing you''re SOOOO glad you got/excited about getting?

We kept a lot of the gifts we got, but some of the things from our Bed, Bath, and Beyond registry were returned for cash or exchanged for something else. With some things we decided once we got them that we didn''t really want them as much as we originally thought so we returned them, and with others we exchanged for different colors (such as towels). Some we got duplicates of (not sure how that happened with a registry, but people apparently didn''t always care if something had already been bought!) so we returned the duplicates.

Most of the stuff that we got from outside the registry was either particularly ugly or not really our taste. Obviously I was grateful for them (and told the gift-givers how beautiful and unique their gifts were) but a lot of those things are still sitting in my mom''s basement. Maybe one day when we have a house I''ll find a place for some of those things, but this small one-bedroom apartment can''t hold it all!

oh this might be embarassing, but FI and i are hoping to receive the irobot vacuum we registered for

We kept almost everything. Someone gave us a little picture frame from bed bath and beyond that wasn''t our style, but is very much my mom''s, so I gave it to her. One of our off-registry gifts, a set of bowls (we had registered for a set, but a different one) is our most-used kitchen item!

I think it''s important to appreciate the thought of any gift, but it''s not your duty to appreciate the item. I personally don''t see an issue with giving unwanted gifts to people who would appreciate them, as long as you don''t foresee awkward visits chock full of "hey, where''s that ___________ I gave you for your wedding?" moments.

Same with us. Bed Bath and Beyond has an awesome return policy. We didn''t even have receipts for half the stuff, but because it was on our registry, we were able to return for cash. (We just changed our minds on a few things)

The only thing that''s really useless (some ugly wall chandelier thing), we can''t take back because we have no receipt. So yes.

We registered online at Crate and Barrel so we didn''t see everything in person. When we got some of the stuff it was too big/small or the wrong color so we exchanged it. There were also some non-registry gifts that we returned but we returned everything for credit so we could go back and get something from the same store. No returning for cash for us.

I''m going to return some weird wine glasses we got. They are beautiful, but we don''t have the room for them, plus we don''t really do a lot of wine drinking. So yeah.

Everything else we got came off the registry, minus the electric candles--which are just weird.

About 90% of our gifts were from our registries. Only a few were similar items not from the registry directly (but still items we requested) or something personal/hand-made. I am thinking about returning our goblets..we received 5/8 which means I'd have to buy 3 more (not too bad), but I am thinking we don't need them. We registered for both iced beverages and goblets and I am not sure we really have somewhere to put both..so I think I might return them and put the money toward our cookware that we want to buy w/ the registry discount (yay!).

LOL Freke. If they''re what I''m thinking (the little tea-light led things), you can send them my way if you still have them?!! I think they''re a neat idea. I haven''t purchased any yet, but I just think it''s a really nice way to get that ambiance without having to worry about fire and without it ever dying out. Also, I went to a spa on my honeymoon a few weeks ago and they had these huge wax candles...but they were REALLY only a ''shell'' (so to speak) because inside of them was actually an electric/led candle and it looked like the real thing and I thought it was so awesome!!! :)

Oh, and in case you may be thinking "but they don''t smell," I hardly ever smell the candles I use. Probably because most of them are tea lights and aren''t very strong?? If you want something with real ''heft,'' I feel like you have to get a BIGGER candle. Ya know?

We returned a bowl to Pottery Barn (from DH''s parent''s neighbors) because we already had received a lot of serveware. We also returned wine glasses from our registry. I had picked them out online and they were HUGE! We used the credit to get towels instead.

We kept everything except for one item that we registered for. We registered for a hurricane candle holder at C&B and when it arrived, it was 10x bigger than what we had thought it would be (we had only seen it online, never in person). Other than that, everything else is in storage at the moment until we move again next month.

we plan on returning some of the BB&B stuff. we live in a small apartment and just dont have the room for it all.

question for those returning - did you just bring it all at the same time to BB&B or did you bring a few items at a time?
we are returning about 10 things and i feel weird walking in with all of them but would rather not make 5 trips.

people taped gift receipts to most things, which was smart of them!

I would do it all at once. It''ll take awhile, but if you''re getting store credit on some or all they''ll have to print you a receipt (the don''t do them on cards for some reason). I know for me it would be a total PITA to have multiple gift receipts to keep track of in my wallet.

Same goes over here. We got quite a few duplicate items as well, which we exchanged for some of the big ticket items we did not receive.

So, BB&B wasnt bad at all about getting cash back? If I brought them all together would they give a little trouble about ALL cash back?

I don''t know if you need a receipt, but I heard they''re pretty good about cash back...

I would have to assume it depends on your individual BBB, but we brought back duplicates and some stuff we didn''t want (we actually did this several times as we kept getting more things we needed to return) and at one point they gave us around $1300 at once. In cash. While they didn''t look too happy about it, they didn''t give us an argument either once they saw the items had been on our registry.

We received multiples of many gifts (9 iron skillets!) For some reason the registry didn''t work correctly.. so we returned lots of stuff! Now we are having trouble using all our credit because we have pretty much everything we need.

We returned multiples (We recieved 3 of the same Michael Aram cheeseboard/knife sets, and more glasses than we registered for). We also returned a set of silverware that we did not register for, and that did not come with a gift receipt or packaging from any store. Thankfully, I myreturns with an amazing woman from the bridal registry and Macy''s and she let me return it!

We did return some WTH is this used for gifts, lol, but for the most part we keep most of them and I must admit is quite a haul

OMG, NINE iron skillets???

I don''t envy you/your DH. LOL How''d you get them all to the store?

We returned a flatware set - we had gotten 2 sets, somehow, when we only registered for one. In hindsight, I probably should''ve kept the duplicate - I''m sure at one point or another, we''ll have dinner for more than 8 people.

Our registry was nowhere near completed after our wedding. But, there were some returns for one or two items that were doubles. We had identical registries at two different department stores (because in areas where DH lived there wasn't a Bergner's, but my family didn't have access to a Macy's - so we registered for the same items at both stores), so we knew this could happen. I do remember taking back a couple of place settings to exchange for a different color. I have fiestaware, so it was a matter of exchanging a green set for a blue so I had the right number of each or to exchange for serving pieces since I think I got 14 settings and only wanted/had room for 12. And there was an extra set of beer mugs that I think we returned for highballs that matched the set - so we never simply returned something or returned an item in exchange for something vastly different.

ETA: We actually did get a lot of random gifts and I LOVED them. I got a couple of le creuset pieces that I never would have registered for, some cookbooks, a picnic set..fun stuff!

ETA 2: N/m...I just remembered the awful napkins that we were given, not on the registry but with an item we did register for...oh yeah, returned those. They were rainbow plaid. Eek.

We kept almost everything. We got this same picture frame TWICE that we did not register for. It was totally not our style and would not fit into the decor of our house at all. So the first time we got it, the people had said it was for our registry so we were able to return it. The second one we got didn''t have a receipt so I actually sold it to a friend who had a friend who did have it on her registry.

We ended up exchanging some bathroom accessories b/c the ones we picked out didn''t have good hardware to attach to the walls. We didn''t know that until we attempted to put it on the wall so no way we could have avoided that. I recently also returned some other bathroom accessories we registered for our second bath b/c I realized we didn''t have a spot for them.

I''d say one of our favorite mututal registry gifts was our Simple Human Garbage Can. We got the butterfly version. Our old garbage can lid used to hit the wall and I was constantly magic erasering the spot and repainting! This new garbage can stays cleaner, does not hit the wall and is really quite nice. Such a silly thing, but really a luxury :).

is there a good time to go to BBB (morning vs night?) I have about 10 things to bring back...should be fun!

did it this morning - it was easy as pie!

We lugged them all to the store in MIL''s SUV. Thank goodness the store had carts so we didn''t actually have to carry them in!
