Did you get a pay rise this year?

I work as a nurse in the UK for the National Health Service (NHS). There ain''t no such thing as a Christmas bonus round here! We got a cost of living increase (this is related the rate of inflation) but that is it. I did take a promotion earlier in the year which is technically more money, but doesn''t actually work out as any more money because my old role involved shifts (with unsocial hours enhancements) which boosted my pay up to what it is now. I effectively get the same pay but for better hours of Mon-Fri 9-5 and with more stress!

I was laid off from my part time job about 5 years ago and the company thought they could find someone else to do the job just as well for less money. They were sadly mistaken. Six months later they asked me to come back. I refused to come back as their employee, but did sell them on the idea of "consulting" for them and charge them an hourly rate plus expenses. Beginning January I am giving myself a raise and they are aware of it. I make more money as a consultant than as their employee, however, they do not have to pay me any benefits... so that is at least a 30% cost savings to them.

My DH has great benefits through his company (better than I would have had and my former employer would not consider giving me compensation for not taking their benefit package. In a previous long term position I had negotiated a larger paycheck in exchange for not taking on their medical coverage). He was supposed to get an increase last July, but the company postponed all increases for 6 months and he just found out that it will be another 6 months for his increase (non-retroactive). Luckily he makes the majority of his money in commissions so he can drive how much he makes based on how hard he wishes to work.

no raise or bonus.new employees are hired on at what i make after year and half.

My husband was promised a raise on two seperate occasions AND also a promotion. None of that ended up happening and he just gave his two-weeks notice and will be going back to work for himself.

He had been self employed for almost his entire adult life and then was hired for a position in the corporate sector and was there for 1.5 years before determining the environment wasn''t right for him.

Hopefully everything works out. We need a lot of dust right now!

Yes, we all got our raise this year- the requisite 3%.

I am a teacher, btw.

Got a ~10% raise in May and my annual bonus was a little over 2 month''s salary. So I definitely cannot complain.

Of course the bonus was based on ''08 sales and profits, I''m not expecting near as much of a bonus from ''09 sales.

My employer is on a wage freeze, so no raises. That is ok with me since I have only worked there for 7 months and would not be getting a raise as of yet anyway. We did get a Christmas bonus, though.
My DH works for a company that is known for giving huge Christmas bonuses, but they were not at all as high this year as in the past.
I am just thankful that we both have jobs

Moratorium on raises and VERY small bonus this year. Dentistry is slow. Eat more Candy!

My husband got a small raise earlier this year (July) and I did not. When I came back from my 6-month maternity leave in January my boss figured my previous salary to an hourly amount and added a dollar to that, however, I went back part-time so it was basically a pay-cut at the end of the day. My hours have increased since then so now I''m about even with where I was pre-baby.

We both have good jobs so I''m very thankful for that.

I got a 4% raise last year and expect the same this year (my review is in Jan). My company is in a fabulous position right now so while we are feeling the effects of the economy, it''s really not that different than it was 2 years ago. I''m not trying to brag, I just love my company and wish you could all work here!

Poor hubs got the highest score in the district on his review last month and got a $.51 raise.

It''s still something though.

Yes I got a raise this year 4% in May and a bonus check as well and on top of that I now work from home, so I saved money on gas and taxes....now next year we shall see, I guess we took a pretty big hit this year and if we get raises they will be small...but as long as I have a job and I get to work from home I aint complaining

DH works on Capital Hill, and in his House committee, the Dems gave out bonuses, while the Republicans did not.

No raise, no bonus and soon no job.

DH''s position is being transferred to San Francisco...a few months ago, he was promised he''d have a job through July, when the Michigan office closes...but this last Friday, he was informed his job ends at the end of February. Merry Christmas.

I''m in law...my year of associates got a raise of just about 3%. Bonuses haven''t been announced yet.

I''m in healthcare and we can get up to 4%/year.. So I got a raise plus a bonus because I did a lot of extra work.. Plus the hospital DOUBLED our present.. we''ve been getting a $5 gift card to the cafeteria but this year we got $10.. Guess things are going well for them...

I had to take 12 furlough days so no.
wife gets 3 furlough days per month = to 14.5% pay cut.

I''m happy to see things are going very well for a lucky few! At least it balances out the rest of us in the no-raise-and-no-bonus camp LOL

Raise? Haha. Not in my line of work. I am changing jobs, which will increase my pay slightly, but I will have twice the number of hours and four to five times the amount of work. Working in the public interest field is not for the faint of heart (or wallet).

DH works at a big law firm. Salaries have been frozen for over a year, and despite seriously exceeding the billing requirements, he''ll get no bonus for the second year in a row. Lame.

Going into second year of wage freeze. Four rounds of layoffs.
