Hi,

I''m new to the forum. I wouldn''t normally start a thread unless it was diamond related but I have been thinking about this for some time now.

With the economy picking up slightly, is anyone holding out for a raise or a christmas bonus? Did anyone get one already?

I know a few people working for Apache (US company) and they got their Christmas bonus already, and on top of that, every staff member receives a tidy incentive package!!!

I guess it really depends on the sector you work in, but right now I''m kinda wishing I''d worked in the oil and gas sector LOL

The only reason I''m getting a "raise", is because I get an extra week of vacation added starting Dec 24th due to time at the company, so essentially they are paying me the same amount, only to be there one week less.

For the record, we have had 4 rounds of layoffs since Spring 2008, and I have survived all of them. Haven''t received a raise or bonus in the last 2 years. However, the executives at my company did... very hefty ones.

I don''t expect a raise or bonus this year either. Our division alone, nationally and internationally, is expected to be $30-$50mil below projected by the end of year, not company related... economy and interest rate related. I expect there will be more layoffs after the beginning of the year again.

Guess it depends on the industry you are in...
 
i work in healthcare, which typically is said to be a pretty safe environment.

not right now!

they took away our 401k match, and this year cut our normal raise of 5-6% to 2.5% max. next year it will be a 1.5% max. ick.

they also are looking for each nursing home in my region to cut 2 full time positions.

bonuses are only available to certain positions, mine being one of those..but due to low census no one has been meeting budgets therefore no bonus. i don''t think they will ever cut my incentives, simply because it is due to high census that we make revenue, so they want to reward the admissions/marketing directors for meeting budget.
 
I feel selfish just thinking about more money. I should be happy that I have a job. I am happy that I have a job...

My DH is getting a small raise and my contract was just re-negotiated finally so I received one too. I think it really depends on the area you're in.
 
I am in a new position within my company, of which, they grossly underestimated the amount of responsiblity and scope. They''ve been underpaying us and they know it. They promised us a "kick a$$" raise. Just found out what we''re getting last week. Want to know what it is? 2%. And we don''t bonus. I''m hacked, but I realize that I need to just be thankful I have a job. I will say that it has directly effected my willingness to take on additional projects above what I''m already overloaded with. It''s the only way to balance out what I''m not being paid when I''m already traveling 75% of the time.

Haha, try nothing at all over the last 2 years... you would get a kick out of reading my "self assessment" for this year end. I underestimated my job ability and work load for 2008 and 2009, just so that I have alot to talk about the year we finally do get raises again. In my mind, no reason to build myself up, if there is no reward... though you could argue that job security is a reward, but they are not basing our layoffs on job preformance.
 
I did not for the last two years, however I was able to negotiate to work from home 1-2 days a week (as to save on daycare expenses for two kids) plus less gas usage, So technically its a raise. I am very thankful to have a job regardless.
 
As a teacher, I''ve received a 3% raise every year . . . but this year (school year, so starting Sept.) our salaries remained the same as last year. But we''re lucky since the next district over had to let hundreds of staff go.
 
I''ve had 2 raises in the 5 years I''ve had this job. There''s "no money" to give raises, even tho I''ve pointed out several ways this money can be brought in-it''s not up to *me*, and I''m told "this is just how the office runs". JD will get a raise..not a big one, and no where even in the ballpark of what he''s worth and for what he does for the company, but it''s better than nothing. Even his supervisor wishes he could give more to him but he has to go by company policy that X person in X job can only receive X raise-no matter how good he is.

No raise this year, and 401k match discontinued, so technically, it was a pay cut. I am thankful to still be employed.
 
I had to take 12 furlough days so no.
 
I got a 2 dollar raise (i work hourly as a contractor) and that is an extra 4,000 a year. Also my contract was extended and I''m very VERY thankful for both.
 
I''m an adjunct college instructor. We received a pay raise this year per our contract.

Had I stayed in my former full-time teaching job I would have received a pay raise there, as well. We had minimum percentage increases built into our contract.
 
we did get a raise this year, but it''s only a small percent over two years so it''s not really alot. We do get an experience differential each year as well which is something like 1.5%. In January we are scheduled for our raise and I get my experience diff as well. The total will be 4.2%
 
Nope, I don''t work on salary. Hubs is very lucky to have a job that he enjoys and feels secure in, but has been patiently awaiting his raise(s) through 2.5 years and four promotions

Tiny tj- Musey, I''m sorry he didn''t get his raise again. Has he given up on the idea of switching companies and decided to stick it out? I know this must be hard for him... Again.

They keep hoping the okay will be passed down to issue pay bumps - really no one has gotten a raise in this time, and he's no. 1 on a very long list once they get approval. He was offered jobs at two different companies, each for higher salaries... but neither offered enough $$ to sacrifice the work environment he so loves at his current company. We shall see, he's continuing to get feelers through the grapevine.

I have 26 furlough days for the fiscal year of 09-10. Yikes.
 
No, neither a pay raise, nor a single bonus for the past 15 months. Nothing. I have a sort of a conflict with the owners of the company I work for right now. Last month I was told "There is no money, neither for the employees, nor for their boss (me)." Which would be a fair enough situation if I didn''t know any better; there are not many things you can hide from the person who runs your company. All my people deserve at least a bonus, and I think I do too.

That was the last of many straws. I wished them good luck finding a new general manager. So as of the end of January I''ll be free as a bird! (provided that they don''t realise I''m not bluffing and change their tune, which is a very strong possibility.)
 
I work for a huge mining company. our company''s financial year ends in June and we get our raises/bonuses in September. I had a teeny tiny raise but a kick ass bonus (2 months worth of salary). we get a 14th month in our contracts (the 13th month is holiday pay and 14th is like a Christmas bonus). they also gave me 7 extra paid leave days (I have a standard of 25 per year) because I was on a project and they made us work late and on weekends. so I have to say in light of the world economy, I had it very good this year. then again, there was also the possibility that I was going to be made redundant, but it didn''t happen so over all I am quite blessed!

by the way, I live in Europe, but work for a multi-national company. we did have lots of lay-offs globally this year.
 
Nope...my hubby hasn''t had a pay raise in 2 years....he survived 2 rounds of layoffs, so I am just thankful that he still has a job and that the company seems to be picking back up again since they will be hiring lots of new people in 2010.

You don''t work and you don''t get paid. You have to squeeze the work you would have done on that day into the rest of your week.
 
No, but they didn''t raise my tuition as much as they ordinarily do each year!
 
No, we missed our 2009 pay increases. Normally we''d get 3.5%.

I''m not sure if we''re getting holiday bonuses this year or not. We will get profit sharing next March.

Hopefully our raises are reinstated next year! I hardly make any money as it is.
 
2.5% pay cut this year. They cut off our 401K matching. 2.5% pay cut slotted for next year. Cost of living increase was also done away with.

I''ve been at my company for less than two years, but no raise or bonus for me. Also, we are spread very thin, so we are expected to bill 120% of our weekly goal--so instead of billing 40 hours per week, we are expected to bill 50 (that is just client work not including any non-client meetings). The past year for me has been very exhausting and I''m really starting to get burnt out. I love a challenge and enjoy working hard, but I''m not sure how much longer I can keep up the pace. They did increase our vacation days next year, which is nice.

D did get a raise and will be getting a bonus, but the raise was based on him getting his actuarial fellowship.
 
I work at a law firm. This type of firm doesn''t collect money from clients "up front" (only after the client has been awarded money), so there''s not really a chance of us being affected by the economy, or by people not being able to afford our services. We are also a small-medium sized firm, and we don''t have any "fluff" employees. Everyone who is here is actually needed.

I did receive a raise this year, (17%). They do give everyone a Christmas bonus every year.

My BF is a supervisor at a big-box electronics store. He hasn''t received a pay raise this year, nor do they do Christmas bonuses. However, when they cut down the amount of supervisors from 7 to 2 (which came with a big drop in pay), he got to keep his position and pay

. Also, they give bonuses quarterly.

I''m extremely thankful that, with so many out there unemployed, we have jobs to go to every day. Bonuses and raises are just icing on the cake, so to speak.
 
No raise for me this year. I started a new job (career, really) in April and I actually took a slight pay cut to do it. My supervisor wanted to give me a raise a couple of months ago but was unable to because there is a freeze on pay raises for all state employees. (I work at a state university.) I had only been there for about 6 months when she told me she was trying to get me a raise, but she said after I''ve been there a year she''ll try again. (I sort of wish she didn''t tell me she was going to try to get me a raise until she found out whether she could or not, though!)

She did give me 2 extra paid days off after I had been there about 3 months, though, which came in handy for my wedding.
