Did he say what I think he said?

Is it the N-word he stopped himself from saying?

Wow, just wow. I don't know what he was trying to say but what I heard was "Nig"...

(so I didn't vote since I cannot be sure of what he was trying to say but I distinctly heard "Nig")

No, that wouldn't make any sense in the context of the sentence. But I don't know what the hell he was trying to say. And I guess I'd think about it more if I was a fan, but he just makes my head hurt.

Oh, yeah, he was totally going to use the n-word. That's why he's so garbled afterward, he is panicked.

nope,it would not.

I genuinely think he nearly put his foot in it. I have thought and thought, and can't come up with an alternative. Hopefully it was one of those moments where you try to say one word, but then another one pops in your head, and you end up blurting out a silly combination of the two. That's my best case scenario. My most likely scenario is that he's a hater to anyone outside his ideal demographic and barely stopped the sh*t from hitting the fan.

If I may be allowed to go off on a tangent for a moment regarding this word:
You know what upsets me is hearing black kids calling themselves this word on the train all the darn time and while I understand why they do it still really upsets me. It's just not OK to use no matter who you are IMO. :blackeye:

nahhh,i don't think so,if that were true then the liberal media would be all over his A$$ by now.

If that's what he was saying, what's the entire sentence? Not that I necessarily believe he thinks in complete sentences.

Yes, that just makes it worse. I mean, how has that been working out for them? That word is offensive period. I don't care who is using it.

And like iLander pointed out, he is VERY flustered after, grasping at straws to move on to new, appropriate words. That was much more than a normal "mis-speech" pause to recollect one's thoughts - that was frantic backpedaling. :nono:

And I do think it fits the context, if he routinely refers to Mr. Obama in private as "that anti-war government n*****".

He says that? He calls the prez a nig***? Has he really done that?

That the word would not have made sense is in no way proof that it was not what he was going to say. Nothing he says really makes any sense. Yes it does sound like the first part of that word, which he then fumbles, and moves awkwardly past. I suppose it is possible he was trying to find a turn of phrase ending in the quasi Soviet deragatory suffix "-nik", something along the lines of 'big government-nik'
and then realized that there is no "big governmentnik" in the common parlance and that most people today dont remember 1960's poloiical slang construction. BUT I dont think that is what he was trying to say, I think he was going right to the N word.

But then I think that the President calls him Santorum, and that is a nasty smear too, um, I mean slur.

No lulu, I wasn't trying to state that he empirically DOES, I was trying to illustrate if that WERE something he did in private, it could have almost slipped out here. I just think it fits the sentence after "anti-war government...", no different than I've heard people refer to the Rev Jackson as "that loud-mouthed church n*****."

And there is the crux of it for me. He babbles so much it's impossible to tell where he is going at any given time... seriously he could have been about to say anything. But the panic he exhibits is rather interesting isn't it.

I admit that i don't really pay much attention to him. And I'm going to continue that way.

I did read this post before I listened to the clip, but that's what I heard. Distinctive "k" sound. May have been power of suggestion though.

And while that doesn't really connect to anything, I don't think the n-word makes any sense in the context either. I'm not buying it.

Does the N-word ever make any "sense" in any context?

only if you're reading huck finn

I mean, we know how it's used. I just don't think his intonation or sentence structure indicated he was about to go to an insult. I also didn't hear the hard g.

Edit: listened again.. may have been hard g, this time it seemed more ambiguous. Power of suggestion indeed!

I think a lot depends on what you think of the guy.

Why should it? I was an early adopter of that other meaning of "santorum." I can think he's a bigot and still not think that was the next word out of his mouth.

I'm pretty sure he was headed to the N word. Replayed it a few times ... What was going on in his head right then !?!?!

Probably the same thing that made him say "blah people"

I agree that it sounds more like he was headed to "government-nik"... which doesn't a great deal of sense, but I'm not sure how he could have ended that sentence had it been the n word that would have made any sense either. The dead stop mid-sentence argues for the other word though...

So count me solidly in the  column!
