I have a chip in my 3 1/2 carat diamond wedding band. This diamond belonged to my husband''s grandmother. I had the stone tighten in June and didn''t notice anything wrong at this time. It was taken to the same jeweler that set the diamond in the band in May of this year. Last week I noticed it was loose again , so I proceded to take it back and have it tightened. The jeweler stated there was a chip on the underside of the ring. I guess my question is. Will the chip continue to grow ? Should I have it polished ? What are the other options I have, the diamond has a lot of sentimental value . The jeweler said to take it home and enjoy it . I do not know what caused this chip, but would like some opitions. I have no idea how the chip was made. The jeweler said there might have been a tiny flaw in the diamond to begin with. It was not noticed at the time the diamond was set and the appraisil was given.
