Hello All,

I read that a fake diamond has colored flashes in the reflections and real diamonds do not. Does this mean that even really good diamonds don''t have colored flashes? I recently purchased what I thought was a good diamond, GIA cert, ideal cut and all, but it does have colored flashes. Should I worry about the authenticity?

Thank you in advance for your response.

One of the joys of having a diamond is how they look different in various light.

Flashes of colors only happen when the light source(s) is(are) relatively small.
One example is the spotlights in the ceilings of many retail stores.

Sunlight will do this too.

One of the best light shows you will ever see is driving at night.
Hold the diamond up so the top of it is pointing back and illuminated by the headlights of the cars behind you.
Don't get into an accident though.

go under a tree.

No. Real diamonds certainly have colored flashes too (aka fire).

If diamonds didn''t have fire I wouldn''t be so taken with them.. there was definately a mix up with what you read, so don''t stress

If you''re concerned, take your ring into a jeweler (any one - a mall one is just fine) and have them test to make sure you have a real diamond.

And, of course, diamonds do have color flashes, so I bet your clear. Next time you purchase, be sure to request an appraisal before deciding on a stone.
