Diamond Disses....

Hubby and I just went to the gun range for some target practice. The lady at the desk sees my ring and starts GUSHING... "Wow! What a beautiful ring, it''s so gorgeous, etc..." Of course, I am flattered, but then she starts saying "awww... i''m so mad. Why can''t mine be that pretty"... and making sad faces at her ring, and hiding her ring....

I felt so bad! Her ring was actually quite pretty. But I know she felt like hers was inadequate or not as good or whatever. Anyone ever had an experience like this? Whet do you say to the person?

This has happened a few times to me. Usually I am so uncomfortable I don''t say anything.

I think it's some peoples' over-the-top way of giving a compliment. I'd find it uncomfortable too.

The best thing to do is probably smile and say "But yours is gorgeous too!" Then change the subject swiftly.

I''ve had this happen with my sister in law. Her Ering was made with an heirloom diamond of so-so cut, and she often remarks on how white and sparkly my diamond is, and sighs. It makes me feel kinda bad

I have actually done this with my ring lol I was having an exray done and the tech had this amazing and huge ring and I couldn''t help but ask about it so I could see it and she said well you have quite a ring too and I was like oh nah, this is nothing lol - hello? dork? that''s me!

I feel uncofortable myself when I get over the top compliments, my coworker would often say how shiny mine looks compared to hers, and other stuff. I would be a bit uncomfortable, I try not to almost hide my ring around her. I try to redirect the compliment back to her though like I love her band and the two tone look, or what a great meaning and relationship you must have behind that ring.

I did. It really was pretty, just a little bit dated. Still nice and sparkly, though!

it happen fequently to me.People find out that im in the trade and when i ask to see their jewelry they say things like"its just a small diamond" or "its not as good as yours".Ive even had one lady hide her ring behind her back so i could not see it at a party i was at!
