diamond - advise, please

I am trying to source out a stone for a colleague of mine. I do not plan to get anything out of it myself, just helping her out.

She is planning to get married. Her fiance wanted to get her a diamond for X-mas. She wanted a 2-ct one but when I said what prices she was looking at, got discouraged. Let me not get into further details, but when we came across a stone which was 1.7 ct VVS1 E color ideal cut my friend got very excited, but it did not materialize, at least, until now.

My feeling is that she should be better off buying a preloved piece but maybe I am wrong?

Anyhow, any ideas are welcomed and if anyone points to the right direction, I'll be only too happy.

I told her she might go down to H and SI1 if she wants to get a diamond that big for an affordable price. All I know is that a B&M jeweler offered 44 K for a 1.7 ct stone, H cut, and I said, NO.

Personally, I've bought a lot of signature H & A stones from BGD so she should start there. Also, there are the BGD Blues also which offer a good value for the $!

I think you would get a lot more responses from experts in Rocky Talky if you repost in that forum also.

If you can find a pre-loved stone in the quality and size you want? GO FOR IT! But that is the trick of it. You have to be patient.
