My younger brother & his fiance are trying to plan a Destination Wedding in Jamaica 07/2010, and they are having tons of problems finding packages, airfares, prices etc.

Can anyone give me any suggestion or ideas we have no idea where to begin, the travel agent they have been talking to is the least helpful travel agent I have ever dealt with.

We have at least 70-75 people coming and we are trying to get a package so everyone can start paying now on some kind of payment plan or at least have a idea of the prices so they are able to budget.

We are in the Chicagoland area so all advice, ideas, suggestions on where to begin would be greatly appreciated so I can help him with the process.

Thanks,
YMA

Hotels in Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios (I think that's now it's spelt) are very experienced at organising wedding packages. Search Google for hotels is Jamaica and then email the hotels directly about their packages. I saw a couple getting married at Beaches in Montego Bay when I stayed there and it looked lovely. I can recommend the Royal Decammeron Hotel in Montego Bay but I've not personally got married there.

My husband and I were married at the Beaches resort in Turks & Caicos. We had something called a "Weddingmoon". That''s when a couple gets married at one of the resorts and then stays on afterwards for their honeymoon. We went alone. We asked the people who were to be our MOH and best man (and their respective SOs if they wanted to come, at their own expense, but they said no).

If your brother is set on Jamaica, the Sandals resorts offer the same thing. (Sandals and Beaches are the same company). This is what I know for sure having been there and done that. Every travel agent has a different set of prices based on how much business they happen to do with a particular resort. So shop around and compare prices. Most of the resorts offer the bride and groom the wedding for free ( about a $1500.- value), so make sure they throw that in at no charge. (That''s having a bridal consultant to take care of all your details and helping the bride dress before the wedding, choosing the location at the resort for the ceremony, it includes dinner at their choice of restaurant at the resort, a champagne toast and their wedding cake). Anything other than that is extra and is billed separately, like the photographer, the hair dresser, any spa treatments, pre-wedding relaxation massages, manicures etc.

Your brother''s going to have a lot of people travelling in his party, so have him really shop around and use the number of people as a bartering tool. The resorts have the ability to upgrade rooms and throw in some extras.
Make them bend and make them work a little to get the business. The resorts are hurting badly now and they need the business. Make this work to your brother''s advantage.

I''m sorry I don''t live anywhere near Chicago, so I can''t help you with specific travel agents, but I can tell you that it''s worth shopping around for whatever package your brother and his fiance'' decide on. We paid the second lowest rate for our room accomodations and package of anyone who travelled with us and there were maybe 40 or more couples on our Sandals Express plane and in our group.

I hope this helped.

We had a destination wedding and Mexico and this website was absolutely the best resource we could have found. Good luck!
