Dilemma:

We want to paint our guestroom/study walls, but we're at a loss for the color. Carpet is "ginger ale" - a light yellowy-brown-beige. It's a small room - 12x12 with a decent amount of light and gorgeous cherry trim around the windows and for the baseboards.

On one wall, there is a bed with lavender throw pillows/dust ruffle and a spring green comforter - no pattern, just plain. The bed has a headboard that is antique- almost a victorian style but not really ornate (a little tiny bit of floral carving in the center). Curtains match the bedding - are mostly white with a delicate floral edge with lavender and spring green.

The desk in the room is mission-style and in oak. On the wall where the desk is, we want to hang items from our alma maters - one photo is matted with a deep red, the other has a bunch of yellow/gold in it - and our diplomas, one of which is in a black frame, the other is in gold.

I really don't want to spend any more money on this project except for paint (ie, don't want to change out the bedding, re-mat the pictures, etc), and I know it's never going to look like a magazine because it is a mis-mash of stuff in the room. However, I'd like to find a color that at least makes the clash of the two extremes of lavender/green and red/yellow a little less jarring.

Any ideas?

Could you maybe post a pic to maybe give an idea of how the colors and bedding look in there. I''m trying to picture it all in my head, but I''m having a hard time.

Basically, lavender and green are the colors in the room, and red and yellow are accents. Red is related to lavender, and yellow is related to green so there shouldn''t be a problem. With your mix of woods reddish and yellowish, that incorporates them into the room, too.

I would go with a golden yellow color for the walls. You could also do one accent wall in a deeper purple to bridge between the lavender and red colors. I think it could look really cute.

If you want a neutral that isn''t too yellow or too green, Sherwin Williams has a paint called "Wood Skein" that is pretty much perfect. If you prefer a neutral with a more yellow tone, Sea Oats (also SW) is a nice option.

I''m so useless w/o pix! We want pix!

Thanks for the ideas!! I''ve been grabbing paint samples that are a pale yellow or a pale green, but I didn''t know if I was on the right track, so thank you SomethingShiny!! - and I''ll definitely check out those suggestions, April - thanks!!

Sorry about the no pics - this is for the new place, so half of the stuff is in storage/boxes at this point.

Which are you more inclined to do in the future? Change the bedding or remat the documents?
