Home Delayed reaction or that ah ha moment...

DD turned 21 in May. She has an internship in town. Spends time between here and her apartment that she has for college. I love that she is spending lots of time here. Most summers she has worked in Nantucket, but now is that all important summer internshp so she is here. I am getting to my point I promise.....

So tonight as she came home with a new MAC , she says come to my room, we sit and chat while she got the new MAC up and running. I said so what is up for tonight?? She's always doing something, with BF or friends.. She said she was going out with her gilrfriends from HS, they are a nice group of girls and am so happy they get together whenever they are home..

I gave her a hug, said have a wonderful time. I said are you doing anything after dinner?? She said she would call and let me know... Like a friend would tell you....

I then realized, she's an adullt.

Tonight was my ah ha moment. Our realtionship has transcended...

I am her Mom, but not so much anymore.. Does that make sense??

Definitely, Kaleigh. I don''t remember the exact moment I realized that my relationship with my mom had changed like that, but it was definitely around college graduation. Since that time, I''ve felt much more relaxed around my parents than I ever did as a kid.

I know, we have always been friends... So lucky in that. But tonight, it was like she''s all growed up. I know not proper english, hehe. But it was that moment where, ok, she''s a woman... Sigh.

Funny thing??

She came back tonight, and had the same conversation with her girlfriends. I said no way.. Then I showed her this thread, she said you are so cute!!!

Thanks Porrige. I didn''t have the best relationship with my Mom, still don''t. So set out to make sure history didn''t repeat itself....

my mom is one of my closest friends, but she is still MOM. As a grown woman sometimes i still feel the need to cry to mommy so she can kiss it and make it better... even when she can''t. I''m so glad you and your daughter are able to have the best of both worlds!

That is a wonderful moment! I have had that with my daughter too. It brings tears to your eyes. It is almost like her whole life is before you at that moment and
you realize the whole scope of it. The infant, the little girl, the teen and now the woman. wow.

That said, she may need a mom again. Then you get that warm feeling of knowing she will always need you no matter how old she gets.

We never outgrow our mom.

That is great, Lisa! She sounds like a sweet girl! I have a really good relationship with my 23 yr. old, too. She''d call and tell me developments about her relationship with her new BF just like you''d tell a girlfriend. I really felt honored that she''d choose to share things like that with me. I hope we''ll always be close.
