my DH got himself into the dog house this weekend and thought he''d order me some flowers to help plead his case. he''s out of town all week for work, so its kind of hard for him to "make it up to me" this week anyways. i must admit, that the thought was very kind, and he knows i love getting flowers at work. and yes, he does occasionally send me "just because" flowers at work too, it isn''t just a "get out of jail free" card.

so he called me today and asked if i had received the flowers. kind of shocked, i said i hadn''t, but i would be on the lookout.

he then forwarded me an email he received from the flower people that said the delivery was delayed since they could not get what he ordered for me to me on time. they offered him a $10 gift card. this is now the 2nd time he ordered flowers from this company (a VERY large global company i might add) and the flowers weren''t delivered as promised. the first time they delivered them to my work over the weekend, even though he had ordered them to arrive on a monday.

i do kinda feel bad for my DH...he was at least trying to get me flowers...and it is the thought that counts...poor guy! but he was asking me if he should complain to customer service since this is the 2nd time he''s had this situation with them. he has already said he will not be ordering from them anymore (i said he better find a new flower company

) but what would you do? it wasn''t a big deal in this case, but think about if you were sending flowers to someone in the hospital who gets discharged, or ordering flowers for a funeral and they end up not arriving...makes me sad!

Next time he should send jewelry. Fed Ex generally delivers on time.

I would definitely complain.

However, since you haven''t received the flowers, they will probably offer him a full refund and just not deliver the flowers at all. Is it worth it, to not get your flowers?

Charbie,

That is really thoughtful of your DH. I worked in the floral industry for years...and honestly I think you he is WAY better off finding a nice local store that he likes to use for his floral deliveries. Those larger national companies that have 800 numbers and claim national delivery (I won''t name names) really are basically call centres and then they farm the work out to smaller local shops. So often times I think they offer things that they may not be able to follow through on. If he contacts a small local shop he will know what is available and will likely be impressed with the level of service. And I know that those larger companies appear cheaper but really they are not, the floral shop that the order is forwarded to just fills the order to the specs and value of what is sent to them.

I''m sorry that didn''t work out for him but hopefully my blurb is informative!
:) Alice

Ditto the small shop, but I also think it is good to speak with the national chain, so it goes into their customer service reports (here is to hoping they actually keep customer service reports).

Also, remind Mr. Charbie to stay in your good graces. Just because flowers are always prettier than I-am-sorry-I-upset-you flowers.

Sorry about the flowers, that stinks!

I would stop using the large global company!!!!!!!

When a guildie of mine died I came here and the girls all advised me to find a funeral home in his area and ask them to recommend some local flower shops and it was brilliant!!! Cheaper, bigger, better.

I spent some time talking to 3 of the different shops about local vs big and the local ones know what they have and what is fresh and you get more for your money because you don''t have the big MR taking a huge chunk out of your flower budget. You can either save money or get more for your money.

Find a local shop you like, get their card and hand it to your dh. it might even be the same place that makes the flowers now (local shops do the work but I was told by them they don''t put as much effort into it since they have very little at stake).

Anyway - I will N*E*V*E*R buy from another big/internet place again. Ever.

So sorry! Definitely I would find a local shop and suggest that to DH for next time

Can''t wait to see your garnet.

thank you all! i did speak w/ mr. charbie, and he has said he will be using a local flowershop from now on. to be honest, im sure the only reason he has been using the big national chain to begin with was because it was all he knew. but after speaking with him about how they''ve done this to him twice now, he will be using the same one i always order from for my patients at work

and i completely agree that the flowers would be much prettier if they weren''t "whooooopsies" flowers.

he didn''t do anything tooooooo terrible. he went to the Bengals playoff game with his best buddy on Saturday night, which always spells trouble. However, he told me he didn''t think they would be going out after the game. well...a few too many jagerbombs and cherry bombs and beers later...mr. charbie was a bit inebriated and forgot (or maybe was even unable) to call me and didn''t answer my text messages (he was staying in cinci at his friend''s house). this is seriously a once in a blue moon type of deal that he would even go out with his buddy like this, but he was not in my good graces when he finally texted at 6am. i''m a forgiving wife. and he learned his lesson.
