As I write (12:20 Sat AM) this we are in a heat wave: 8 F.

Well...your heat wave is our cold wave. It was 7 F last night and the dog refused to come in, so he spent 3 or 4 hours sleeping outside, to my dismay. He obviously survived it. The temperature is going to be below zero tonight, which is very rare here. I won't let him stay out overnight tonight (famous last words...how do I get him in?). After my daughter took him for his morning walk he came inside, but when he lay down on his bed we both noticed he was panting. My daughter asked why. I suspected he needed to cool down. Sure enough, he wanted to go outside and lie in the snow, the favorite pastime! That's where you can usually find him!

(My temps also don't include wind chills.)

Our local station said that it was 18 degrees here today and it will be 7 degrees tomorrow. They're also saying that we might get a Nor'Easter on Wednesday. ;(

I live in Stockholm, Sweden so we mostly have pretty warm winters comparativly. Today it is only at 12 degrees. It gets a bit annoying when you have two solid weeks at -10 to -20 and your bus is canceled so you have to wait half an hour. Always has to be combined with chilling winds and snow up to your thighs. It gets worse when you go visiting up north, they got some lovly days of close to -40 degrees.

I don't know how you gals and guys do it who live where it gets really cold. I think I'd freeze to death if it was that cold here! Today was a nice and sunny 70 degrees...I start feeling cold whenever it drops below 60. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold.

Ditto...I'm with you and Kenny! I've actually been surprised at how cool the Bay Area has been in the winter (after dark we've been seeing temps in the 30s). But it hit the 70s here this week, and people were actually swimming in my apartment's heated pool. I love living here.

It's supposedly 9.6 F now. I don't know. The forecast said it was going to go below 0. Maybe at 4:00 or 5:00 AM. I remember one year when it was around 5 F and the car doors froze. We were spraying them with the spray people use on windshields to de-ice them and trying to get locks open. It may have been on a Christmas Day because I remember people in my driveway, several cars, all of them having trouble!

I'm hoping we don't face that in the morning. I don't have any of that kind of spray anymore!

It's 1 degree Celsius here, with fog and a bitterly cold wind. I must admit, I really quite like it. As I get older, I like the cold better and better. I love to go for a walk in blistering cold and my incredibly lazy dog is only really happy to go out in icy weather. We're nicely adapted to our environment, I suppose.

This am in SE PA it is showing 1 degree on my outside thermometer. At 8:19 am it is only 69 degrees in my home and I kicked the heat up at 6 am. It was 67 then.

Expecting a warmup tomorrow. I will take any increase in temps I can get. even the dog is "holding it in" for as long as he can.

Same weather, different dog. Computer said: 1 F degree ; .7 F degree and .5 F degree depending on whether you wanted the next large town or the reading for my exact area. Then the car thermometer started at 5 F degrees and went down to 1 F degree as I drove. Then bounced around between 1 F and 3 F as I moved from one part of town to the other.

The dog wants to be outside, has to be lured in with steak, has become very suspicious of steak.

It's the best, isn't it? Earlier this month it was unseasonably cold, but the past week has just been gorgeous.

Where are you at? I'm in San Jose. :wavey:

Star - We stay inside our nicely heated homes most of the time. When we go outside we wear warm coats, boots, and gloves. It's fine, it really is.

it's cold here (we got a really nice 3" snow today) but it isn't THAT cold. I only know in C* though - it was about -8 today and about -15 at night (both above F 0) but we just went to Harbin this past weekend and there is was -30C which is really damn cold!!!!

Sara-last year there was a slide show of ice sculptures from Harbin being circulated via e-mail. They were spectacular. Are they there yearly? Did you see any?
