It is -20 right now. Burrrrrrr!

Whenever it gets this cold I start to worry about people that let their animals roam outside.

How cold is it there???

Bean, honey, where ARE you? Siberia? You poor baby! Yes and agree a million percent about animals. A trillion percent.

Here in No. Carolina this a.m. the weather guy warned about our deep-freeze coming this weekend: 19 at night, 34 daytime, ooohhh. I suppose they will issue the usual warning, EVERYBODY STAY HOME! It's a hoot!

Where are you again, Bean?

Here in northern New England, it's about 25. It's also snowing and we we have our 2nd snow day of the week (plus, we had Monday off for the holiday).

It's 32 degrees here, with a high of 51 later today. Yeah, it isn't cold at all. We also have yet to get any snow, other than one tiny dusting a couple weeks ago.

I dread the summer with such a dry winter. Ugh.

This exactly.

Except that I didn't get Monday off for the holiday ;( (though I took Tuesday as a work-from-home/snow day! )

It's 14 out in Northeast Ohio. It's the coldest day that I remember so far this year, but I know colder ones are coming. It actually feels like 14. Normally we have a ton of windchill off the lake and it feels a lot colder!

I always worry about pets over the winters - ours don't get that cold (-20?! holy cow!) but I feel like it drags on for 6 months and no pet should have to be stuck out in the cold for such an extended period of time.

It was 35 degrees here this am (we also got 4 inches of snow overnight) in SE PA. The sun is out now, but the temps are going to drop and it is supposed to get windy and we will be in a deep freeze through the weekend at least. Is it March yet?

Right now in Michigan it's 12 degrees... Don't know how low with wind chill. Definitely hot chocolate weather!!!

Not sure what the temp is now, but at 7:30 this morning, it was -3 with wind chills around -20 in the Chicago area.

NJ--32 and scheduled to drop into the low 20s this weekend. I'm NOT happy. We've had the 5th snow storm since Christmas last nite/this morning with ANOTHER one scheduled this coming Tuensday/Wed.

Sorry to rain on this parade.

Watch, someone's going to tell me to . . . chill!

The actual temperature today isn't bad, hovering in the low 30's, it's the wind chill that (wait for it).... BLOWS

not sure what the temp is..fricken butt ass cold I know. It's not yet to the freeze-your-nostrils-shut cold yet tho, so that's a plus at least. I don't mind winter but when it gets to the point that your nostrils freeze together, I'm not happy.

It's 7 outside in West Virginia. The dog keeps wanting to go outside to hop around on the frozen snow, but I'm not about take her out there. I turn into a popsicle just taking her outside when she needs to go do her thing. I really hate the cold!!!

It is very cold today here in minnesota, we hit -27 F last night brrrrrrrrr. Too cold outside for furbabies thats for sure!

OMG... Kenny, you're so mean! Wishing I lived somewhere warm right about now. It's 5 degrees in Chicago (-7 with wind chill) and heading down. I can't wait to go on vacation!!

Hey, bean. I didn't watch the weather last night, so I did a double-take this morning when I got into the car and the built-in thermometer told me it was -17 deg F. :o But, I suspected it might be cold so I wore my heavy woolen pants suit that I save for weather like this, and I did just fine. ;)) Stay strong (and warm)!

oh my

DH is applying for an assistant professorship at uni. Minn.. -27?!

He's also looking at positions in Texas. Is it strange that I... actually think I prefer the idea of snow and hot chocolate and...even with the frozen pipes and...

So we never heard where bean is. Where are you, Fly Girl? I understand that Minnesota is cold to the point of -27 F. Where else is it -17F and -20F? I'd be guessing Montana, Idaho, North Dakota...or any of the Canadian provinces except British Columbia. But that's just off the top of my head.

Here in Chicago we hit -29 with the wind chill...it was -5 when I left the house this morning according to the thermometer in my car. However, let me add, it wasn't *that* bad. Cold, yep....but it was sunny and that makes a difference, at least to me. I blasted the heater, turned on the heated seats and I wasn't bothered a bit (thank you North Face).

You know when it is -20 degrees, you can spit and it will freeze into ice before it hits the ground. Fun stuff!!! Try not to lick your lips as they will become very chapped pretty quickly. But it is strange to hear ice hitting the ground, but I don't miss that bitter cold weather now. Any volunteers???

It's rather cold here in southern Indiana, I believe it was negative 3 last night so instead of keeping our dog in her crate downstairs close to the front door, we let her sleep in bed with us. OMG, she kept us up ALL NIGHT. She likes to burrow under the covers, and then pop out and shake off (metal tags jingling all the while) every 2 hours! It was ridiculous. We're not doing that tonight...instead we're taking shifts to ensure that the pipes are not going to freeze and that our baby dog is warm enough (she has her own personal space heater!)

I took her out when we returned home from dinner/dancing this evening and let her off leash for once since there was zero traffic on our street. She LOVED IT, but it was so cold that she instinctively burrowed down in the snow and wasn't going to get up. I literally had to climb through a snow drift next to the creek by our house and pick her up and carry her into the house, where she was perfectly content. Little sh*t!!!! i'd heard that dogs do that; burrow down and sleep, but I've never witnessed it until tonight.

She's now fast asleep in her pink crate with her space heater going strong... i'm about to go upstairs and enjoy some warmth myself!

I am currently on Business in London. Its 37 and Rainy :(sad

Well it's 1 degree outside right now-- things are looking up!!!

I always said I'd leave MN when I was younger- hated the snow and lack of life for 5-6 months out of the year, but I guess I'm a glutton for punishment- I'm staying and still love this crazy weather!

Though, you KNOW you're a MNer when it's 20 degrees outside and you ask your husband (or whoever) if it's "cold out" and he replies "not really" so you go about your errands w/o a winter coat- and hardly notice!

:)

I am anti-jackets and coats. I protest as much as possible and only wear in extreme weather. Otherwise a designated "hoodie" is ok with me.

Yeah, it is FREEZIN here in Chicago!

We don't walk the dogs when it gets too cold out. Our Pit mix has very short fur, and basically none on her belly, and her paws are so sensitive to the cold. We have to slather them with Musher's whenever there's any snow at all outside, or else she'll come in with bloody tootsies. Poor baby. Our Shih Tzu, on the other hand, would spend ALL DAY romping in the snow no matter how cold it is outside. He's like a 14 lb polar bear. It took me ages to get him to come inside last night, and when he does, the snow balls up on his fur so he really does look like a little mass of snowballs. Strange stuff.

We give our dogs exercise by playing games in the house and putting Bailee on the treadmill during the worst part of winter. It's just too cold to be outside for very long.

Well...our dog (a Newfoundland) could handle Chicago or Minnesota, but I don't think I could! I always said I would never live in the South, and I have to say that even Virginia summers were trying for me. (I hated the heat and humidity that came with my own Connecticut summers.)

As I've gotten older, Connecticut has felt colder in winter. I wouldn't leave (except maybe for a Mediterranean climate), but I'm cold in the house and cold in the car for for the first 10 minutes or so.

The Newfoundland can spend hours outside when it is 15 degrees or so. On Monday it is supposed to be 5 degrees. I suspect he will like it. I don't know if he would love -27 degrees, but I am sure he could endure going for a walk in it!!!

Your great big bear of a dog would probably LOVE our Chicago winters, Deb. My yard is covered in a beautiful blanket of fluffy snow, just waiting for someone to carve swooping curves of tracks into it. We do play with our pups in the yard, but poor Bailee inevitable comes in with bloody paws, and Willie comes in covered with hard little snowballs clinging to his fur.

I grew up in NE Ohio :wavey:
I know recently the greater Cleveland area hasn't had the bitter cold it used to get, but I remember having cold days, not just snow days when I was younger. The windchill would mean the temp never got over -10 some days....brrrrrrrr. It cracks me up because I live at the opposite side of the state now and people are freaking out that the overnight low is 0. That hasn't happened around here in quite some time, I guess :)

Central Wisconsin got down to at least -25 F the one time I looked at a live temperature map - and I suspect it got colder during the night.

Here on the very east coast of Wisconsin it got to -10 F because I live in the "lake effect" zone where the warmth of Lake Michigan kept the temperature from dropping so much (in the summer the lake can keep us cool too depending on the direction of the wind). 10 miles inland it was at least -20.

I did notice yesterday that I had not yet put in the winter liner on my trench coat (summer rain coat and winter general wear).

As I write (12:20 Sat AM) this we are in a heat wave: 8 F.

Note these are all temperatures - not wind chills....
