Hey everyone (and Gypsy),

So I am not one to turn down help when I know I am WAAAYY over my head. So this is my venue, and my wedding is on June 27, 2009.

Background: I am asian, and I dislike white. I am not a white kind of girl. In real life, I have a pretty minimalist style. My house is decorated in complete tone on tone. My wedding dress (lets be honest, that`s a nightmare for another thread) I hate dress shopping, but I *think* I veer more toward the plain. Some dresses I love presently is the Justina Mccaffrey Verona and this Jim Hjelm but I haven`t bought a dress yet, and have tried on very few. Just to give you a kind of feeling. It''s a night reception.

So questions (are there are SO MANY):

a) Does my dress have to fit the venue and the decorations?

b) Does my bridal bouquet have to match the color of the reception flowers?

So because I am asian, I thought about very dark red tablecloth, with gold chivari chairs, gold candlebera, and black magic roses. Then I thought to myself, I don`t want black magic roses for my bouquet, and maybe this scheme is totally TOO asian. I am also not a colorful girl in terms of flowers, I am lean more toward tone on tone, then multi-color. My fiancé is Canadian. We will be having lion dancers, so I really don`t want it to feel ''''overwhelmingly theme asian''''

So then I thought gold table cloth, gold chivari chairs, gold candlebera with white flowers (of whatever kind they throw together)

I am pretty much restricted to gold and red (in whatever variations) due to the venue AND my hertiage. (Unless you lovely ladies can help).

My guy really likes the high centerpieces. He really likes the candlebera (HOW DO YOU SPELL THAT???) Things.

So lots of pictures to come, including the place we will be renting the stuff from (they have a large selection)

Thank you so much! And thanks Gypsy for any flower suggestions you can give!!!

Ugh. Ok. I am having an impossible time with the website, I can`t copy any of the pictures anymore. Basically:

http://www.casaderamo.com/ under weddings, they have services, and if you view portfolio, they show everything they have.

Last picture, of an arrangement I like, I would do all white flowers (without any of the greenery) This is if I went with a more gold theme.

I''m not Gypsy, but I am Asian (lol) so I just wanted to throw in my two cents. Because your wedding is at night, I think the dark red tablecloths and the gold chairs and centerpieces are perfectly fine. It may have looked a little dark for a daytime reception, but I think it will set a lovely mood for a nighttime one. I think some candles would really look awesome too. I don''t think it''s "too Asian" - too Asian would be having a huge gong in the middle of the dance floor.

As for the black magic roses, I think it really depends on the style of the arrangement...I could see how all the red might be a bit much because those roses are SO SO red, but I think it could be done in good taste. Having the green/gold in there (or another wedding-neutral color) might break it up a bit and help out there.

I don''t think your bridal bouquet has to match the reception flowers but I am not the reception authority so I don''t know the "rules" on that type of thing. I never noticed if the bridal or BM bouquets matched the centerpieces, so I doubt your guests will either. Maybe you could tie in some red or gold into the stem part of your bouquet if you''re worried about it but I wouldn''t be.

I think your dress is BEAUTIFUL and if that''s you in the picture you look gorgeous in it!
30.gif
I think it would match ANY venue, so no worries there. It''s elegant and that seems to be the look you want for your reception and I think it''s fine. The only time I could see a wedding dress not matching a reception is if the reception was super informal and the dress was super formal or vice versa - and even then, who cares, it''s the bride''s day!

For someone that doesn''t like white I am see a lot of *ahem* white from your inspiration photos.

lol

I don''t have a whole lot of advice, but I think the dress is stunning and looks like a good match. We have discussed this before about dresses matching venues and, at the end of the day, you should wear what you love. If you wear a ballgown on the beach that is a brides prorogative. I thought my dress was too much for a garden wedding, but I don''t care. I love it and that is all that matters.

Don''t underestimate the accent power of green

. I think your bouquet should have some tie to your table centers, but that is just my opinion.

I am excited to see how this folds out!

I am Sarah and I''m not Gypsy and I''m also not Asian (which makes me sad, trust me . . . I''ve devoted much of my academic career to Asian Studies). Anyway, hehe. Out of the two photos you showed (which I think you''re kind of talking about combining the two if I read it correctly), I actually prefer the second or "gold theme." I think the red might be a bit too dark for the room at night. The room needs an ivory or white or just gold on gold to catch light and lighten it up since the darkness will be coming in through all of the windows. That''s just my opinion!

Also, I love the dress you posted!

I’m not a professional so this is more based on my personal preference and what I’ve seen in the past:

a) Does my dress have to fit the venue and the decorations?

The bride sets the tone of the wedding, IMO. I think it would be strange to see a very simple dress in an elegant, formal wedding or the flip-side, a $10K princess ball gown on a beach. I think the dress should go with the theme or the feel of the wedding, not necessarily the colors.

b) Does my bridal bouquet have to match the color of the reception flowers?

I don’t think so, just be reasonable. Since your colors are dark red, gold, and black magic roses…I wouldn’t walk in with a bright blue bouquet. Maybe you can do something like gardenias with some white roses (I know you don’t like white but still). Something like what emeraldfan had?

Iwannaprettyone: You''re too funny. The reception roon all white is the stock picture

IndyGirl22: That`s a really good point about the decor being dark. I am a little worried about that because it''s more country-ish wedding (the large windows overlook a lake huge lake and gardens) so I thought it might be too fancy, compared to a more natural theme

Sarah: I think the second inspiration picture would suit more the setting.

fiery: If you`ve never noticed about bouquets matching reception, then I think I am worrying about nothing! It just seems more complicated then I thought.

Basically right now I have 3 options:

1) Dark red table cloth, gold chivari chairs, and candlebera with black magic (or yet to be determined flower as Gyspy the flower expert has yet to chime in.)

2) A gold/ (much darker table cloth then in inspiration picture) with chivari chairs, gold candlebera and white flowers. (so no white except for the plates)

3) I could also just reproduce the second picture exactly with the organza overlay (but I think there will be too much white showing)

HOWEVER, I would also love a totally other color combination, but looking at the carpet of the reception room (the gold+ red) I didn`t see what else would match. So if you can see something else that would work, I would LOVE THAT. I actually prefer blue/green/turquoise but I don`t think they would match.

Thanks so much for your opinons ladies!

FWIW, I really like the red tablecloth with the gold chairs. I think it would match the carpet beautifully. I don''t think it''s too countryish of a venue for fancy tables, chairs, etc. because the windows are very beautiful and remind me of an estate rather than a farm. Everything gold will just glow at night! Is that carpetting permanent or could they remove it? It just looks like a bunch of area rugs put together so if they can remove it or get a different style than you can definitely do your blues!

First off...Yay wedding date twin!

Secondly, and more to the point...I think that you can wear whatever you like best and nothing has to match exactly. Wear what you like and what makes you comfortable...it can be simple and you can still have a fancy ballroom. Make it you, and then your loved ones will be sure to love it! I think the red tablecloths and gold chairs sound very nice and fit your reception venue wonderfully.

I like the simple, elegant dress style that you prefer. I think that style of dress really works with many different venue styles because it is so simple and elegant. I think you''ll be fine there.

As for your bouquet- I personally prefer them not to completely match the other flowers, but still look tied in to the overall decor. I.e. if you''re doing black magic roses, perhaps you could have a few white roses among other things in your bouquet. As other have stated I think that if you were to go with a bright multi-colored bouquet it would look a little strange, but if you go with the creams and greens I think it will look very nice. They have these gorgeous dark red calla lillies- if you wanted just a hint of red in your bouquet, perhaps you could use a few of those?

When I saw your post I thought immediately of gingerBcookie''s wedding (one of my favorites!). Her wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and had a very similar color scheme. Perhaps you can refer back to her pictures! https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/by-request-gingerbs-wedding-pics-re-posted.74800/

So questions (are there are SO MANY):

a) Does my dress have to fit the venue and the decorations?

I think the style of dress you are looking at fits perfectly with your venue, and the decorations will work with it as well.

b) Does my bridal bouquet have to match the color of the reception flowers?

I think the deep red and gold and white are lovely. No, your bouquet doesn’t have to be all black magic roses. You can do all white, all red, red and white or gold and any combo of those colors. I have some bouquet ideas on my home computer… I’ll put some together for you. You can do ANYTHING you want with your bouquet. Doesn''t have to match anything else.
So because I am asian, I thought about very dark red tablecloth, with gold chivari chairs, gold candlebera, and black magic roses. Then I thought to myself, I don`t want black magic roses for my bouquet, and maybe this scheme is totally TOO asian. I really think you are boxing yourself in here. I really do. You can think a little outside the box.

My guy really likes the high centerpieces. He really likes the candlebera (HOW DO YOU SPELL THAT???) Things.

I’ll give you some pics for these too.

So lots of pictures to come, including the place we will be renting the stuff from (they have a large selection)

Thank you so much! And thanks Gypsy for any flower suggestions you can give!!!

Here are my thoughts. You aren’t really limited to gold, white and red. REALLY. I would throw some gold, champagne or maybe some brown in there as well. Oranges so that the reds and oranges together are kinda like flame. Some flame callas would be a great addition there. Or you can go the other way with the red and take it totally deep and do some dark dark red callas in your bouquet. There are a lot of options. Just because you are doing one solid color in an arrangement doesn’t mean you are restricted to one type of flower… you can get lots of texture and interest with different flowers of the same color in a piece. Personally I’d just throw some orange in with the red and golds and whites.

I think you are caging yourself in mentally by restricting yourself to these colors… and therefore forcing yourself to use more white than it sounds like you want to. I’m also not a fan of chivari chairs, personally. Especially gold and silver ones. I think the mahogany ones are the nicest ones, with white or ivory chair pads. I think you can do gold organza sashes on them then. The mahogany ones are a neutral, but they look lovely with the sashes—and they work great with red. And you can even do white and gold sashes alternating per table (each table is either all white or all gold with their sashes).

The candelabra can be gold with nice candles… pillars or tapers. And you can save money by doing high and low centerpieces… some half of them being low ones with candles around them would save you quite a bit of money. Plus in a room that large all tall gets a little monotonous. I think doing high and low arrangements will really create more interest.

Let me look around and see what I find. I’ll have some ideas for you by the end of the week, okay?

IndyGal: Yes the carpet is removable, but the floor under it is really scary. Sort of a brown with black spot kind of concrete-ish looking. I find it strange that the cieling is blue, but I guess that is supposed to give the feeling of being outdoors? Well I think the red and gold is still definitely in the running. I think I will see if Gypsy can me someflower suggestions for dark red flowers aside from black magic.

BensBride: Another wedding date twin! Too cool, I will have to see what you''ve been up to.

Sap483: That''s a really great suggestion. I really love gingerB''s look. That was when I decided that black magic would be pretty

Gypsy: You are a saint. I think the guru of wedding flowers and decor. I am rethinking the high and low centerpiece. My only fear is that then I have to pick 2 centerpeices and that=more decisions to make. Kind of why I thought, all one flower because it simplified things in my head. There''s a picture of a bouquet I absolutely love, I bought the magazine because I love the bouquet! (black beauty roses, peonies, tulips and hydrangeas) Also, I am kind of budgety on the flowers. To me the color looks like a dark pink and I was wondering if this would somehow be doable or does it clash? In any case, thanks so much! I''ll be waiting for your flower advice.

Hi Ally, I LOVE that bouquet! If the pinky tones bother you, you can ask for deeper reds of those same flowers mixed with brighter reds for contrast and minimal pinks.

That bouquet reminds me of the one here which I have a close up of, except your has some lovely dark red, which adds a great contrast(I''m gonna post three pics really quick... I don''t have reception flower pics right now, but have some personal flowers I wanted to share with you).

This one is just for the look of the reds with the oranges I was talking about (the BM bouquets have hints of fushia too, which you could nix and replace with the dark dark red you have above in that bouquet you posted. But this pic gives you the idea I was talking about... can''t you totally see this with gold accents like chair sashes and gold urns for the low centerpieces and candelabra for the high centerpieces??).

Here is a close up of the bouquet in the pic above.

Here''s another bouquet, and this one has a lovely dark red callas (which is what I mentioned before as well) as an alternative to the dark red roses. I love the bout.

Okay so I found this concept pic which is just outrageously fabulous IMO. If you aren''t set on your table cloths, and like this look... instead of the tall centerpieces being Manzinita trees you would do candelabra. I love the tone on tone.

Gypsy!

Oh my gosh, I am INSANE about that girl''s bouquet (the asian girl). It''s perfect, size color, perfect. I don''t you need to post another bouquet because it''s EXACTLY what I had in mind.). You wouldn''t mind identifying some of the flowers would you?

Hmm, I totally love the fact that you fond someone with a red table cloth and flowers, so it can definitely be done. I am liking that too. (fiane thinks it''s too pink though. You know I have groomzilla right?)

Have you any chance a picture of an all gold scheme with white flowers (per groomzilla''s request) lying around? I will be able to use that bouquet regardless right?

Thank you!!!!

YES. You can use that bouquet with a white and gold theme. Absolutely.

Red cymbidium orchids, red mokara orchids, red roses (black magic most likely) and deep red peonies, red mini callas. I’m so glad you like it, it’s one of my favorites!!

So... a gold and white reception huh? I will see what I can find for him (and yes, I did know that... my condolences, lol).

Gypsy! Groomzilla LOVED the bouquet you posted! I am so thrilled because he''s vetoed ALL of the choices so far. And the best part is that there are calla lilies in it, so he says he will wear that as a boutonniere (he feels it is a sufficiantly manly flower). He also really liked the red tone, on tone. I''m going to look at that website (project wedding) and see if I can find something red that he LOVES. I am thinking maybe the tableclothes are TOO dark, for our venue, so I am going to try to mix it up.

He actually likes that original gold one I posted although I do agree with you that it is a much more feminine look.

I''m going to have to look up some of your threads, because I don''t know what your centerpeices look like.

He told me to tell you he likes the your avatar by the way

. I am going to try to think outside the box (or find a picture of someone that thought outside the box) Thank you so muchh!
