DC earthquake... who got woken up?

I woke up around 5am this morning to what sounded like the rumble of thunder. I was in bed and could feel the whole house shake for a few seconds. At first, I thought it was a huge storm but all seemed quiet outside when I got up and looked out. Then, I thought maybe a dozen cars hit a telephone pole in my back yard... but I don't have any telephone poles in my yard. Last year, a propane explosion flattened a house about 15 miles away from me. That was around 1:45am and I clearly felt that. I didn't hear any sirens so I went back to sleep. On my way to work, the radio station I was listening to said a 3.6 earthquake hit around Gaithersburg.

Did anybody else feel it?

I think I might have kinda sorta felt it here in southcentral PA. DH's alarm goes off at 5:00 a.m. every morning, and just a little bit after he hit the snooze button, I thought it was thundering or something. (Remember, I'm still about 75% asleep at this time.) So . . . maybe???

I was wondering if you felt it up there. I was 100% asleep! Definitely sounded like a deep rumble of thunder. Not sure if it was the noise or the shaking that woke me up.

It woke up a friend who lives in Gaithersburg. Pretty unusual thing to happen in DC area, huh?

Very unusual in the D.C. area. I slept through it.

I was in Baltimore this morning and didn't feel a darn thing. My co-worker was in DC and she felt it. I feel left out.

I think that's actually probably a GOOD thing...

It's interesting who felt it and who didn't. I'm not exactly close to where they say the center was. Nobody I talked to at work felt or heard it. Yet it woke up every one of my neighbors. Guess we're all light sleepers!

I moved to Seattle in late 2000 and got to experience the 6.8 they got in Feb 01. It was a jolt and a half. I'll take the 3.6.

Well, I've got everybody beat, although since I don't actually remember it, I can't brag too much. I was in Anchorage for the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake, a 9.2.

Gotta wonder if being in one now would trigger any buried memories - I WAS awfuly little, but still. I think I'll just pass on all of 'em!
