So, I had straight-ish hair (it had a wave, but was too fine and heavy to actually carry it out) until the age of 36. Then a change in medication gave me a head of curly hair. Not super-curly - my whole family had curly/wavy hair, and I was the only straight/shiny one in the bunch -but it's definitely curly, and since the advent of grey hair, fuzzier than I'd like.

Of course the irony is that my hair was so fine and limp that back in the day, I permed it so that it would actually do something. Now that I have curls I'm pining for my straight hair -but I don't always have 25 minutes in the morning, which is what it takes to blow it straight.

So curly haired friends, what's your regimen? What makes you love your curls?

I have curly hair and I have been loving the brand Rezo, specifically their Curl Manifest Line. I use the Curl Manifest shampoo, conditioner, and gel.

My hair goes into crazy ringlets, too, @empliau.

I've used all sorts of products, and my fave to date is Kevin Murphy's Curl line: Killer.Curls Wash, Killer.Curls Rinse, and Killer Twirls.

My hair is soft, non-frizzy, and the curl is very beautifully supported by the leave-in Twirls creme.

I've also had good results with Unite's Beach Day Texture Spray, followed by the Boing Curl Leave-in, although I prefer Kevin Murphy.

So interested to see the replies for this thread. I have wavy hair kind of. The top and sides are wavy the back is mostly straight. My niece inherited the same hair. She used to get the back permed, now she just cuts it short. When the humidity is high my hair can go "fuzzy". I put it into a high, messy pony on those days or use a straightening iron. After years of never getting the same layered cut I decided on one length hair.

My hair has a mind of its own and always wants to stand up every which way made worse by wearing a bipap at night.
So my hair moto is b-me-b-happy.
So I will say..b-u-b-happy!

I'm hair-impaired (diagnosis: frog hair) but empliau, you have something gojn' on and a lovely neck. You'll find a way to rock it.

My hair is a 2B/2C. When I wear it wavy I usually let it air dry after applying product. I scrunch my hair until it goes in place. The best I’ve found so far is a kids curling cream at Target.

I usually wear my hair straight. I can’t recommend Bumble and Bumble Bb Straight cream enough. I apply and don‘t waste time blow drying it nicely. I find it’s faster to straighten it with a flat iron after I’m done drying. I can straighten it in about 10 minutes so not too bad if I wash my hair the night before.

Also, find a stylist who knows how to cut curly/wavy hair. I find that makes a big difference regarding ease of styling and maintenance.

Following bc I’ve always had curls and over the past few years the top part of my hair doesn’t have the ringlets that it used to. Will look over this thread with these product recommendations.

I have really curly hair too. If i wash it & leave it, it goes into this huge grandmother type of frizzy bush & looks a state.

I wash it in the evening, apply a couple of drops of hair oil rubbed together in my palms first to add moisture, then I use Cantu Leave In Curl Cream. Once I’ve rubbed that through, I twist into ringlets all over (takes about 10 mins), scrunch them, then leave them to air dry over night.

I have have 2c/3a curly hair and currently use a method of brushing curl cream through my soaking wet hair section by section, then scrunch and diffuse to dry.
*I rake the product through a section of hair with my hands, then again using my paddle brush (you can use another type of brush, this is just what I have), give the piece of hair a little shake and move on to the next section.
*It sounds tedious but takes less than 5 minutes to do
*Once all done, I'll scrunch everything with wet hands, I make sure I can actually hear the water squish. Some people will actually dunk their hair into a bowl or sink of water, I haven't tried it though.
*I use a diffuser with the kind of attachment I can scoop the hair into and hold against my head to scrunch and dry at the same time
*My current favorites are Mark Anthony Coconut and Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie, but there are lots of choices out there

I'll add that when I first started to use this method a colleague and friend stopped me one day to ask what I had changed because my "curls have been ON POINT lately." Her daughter has incredible curls, so I took that as a big compliment!

I think a Bentley would cure your "state" !!! :lol-2: :saint: :wavey: :P2

I did not know about this number designation until you guys started referencing to Ba etc. I need to figure out what mine is. Anyway, here’s what the bottom of my hair looks like and what it used to look like all over:

IMG_6712.jpeg

But the top part is like a weird wavy/straight and it kind of sucks because it looks messy all the time. I want it to look like with the bottom looks like which is what it used to look like! But I’m pretty low maintenance. I just put cream on it and let it air dry.

there are a bunch of different places that quiz you on you hair and tell you the type. I just picked one randomly to show you. I've never used it, just an example

when you say the bottom, do you mean underneath, vs the layer above? I thought you meant the top half vs the bottom half. If you mean underneath, then I have the same issue. My hair "underneath" is still the same loose curls I used to have all over, but now the top layer is much straighter. I assumed that was because I color my hair and sometimes flat iron it, but thinking about that, it probably isn't why since I color and flat iron all of it. So I have no idea what causes it, but you are not alone!

Mine is like that too! Much curlier underneath than on top. Though, I have a short forehead so I tend to wear the front in barrettes so it’s not noticeable. I use Garnier Fructis curl sculpt to scrunch and air dry. Since I color my hair, I only shampoo twice a week and use Carol’s Daughter cleansing conditioner the other days.

Yes underneath!! Exactly that! I don’t flatiron. I think it’s just that’s the part that gets all the sun exposure etc. - but I’m not sure!

I wash with sulfate etc free shampoo and conditioner. I put leave in conditioner ouidad for curly hair and take my dh’s under shirt and after combing with a comb to comb the conditioner through my strands I scrunch with my dh’s t. And air dry. Voila.

Like you I used to have stick straight hair and it turned curly in my late 20s. So strange. But my sister and mom have curly hair so I was just a late bloomer lol

That is incredible that your hair curled like that so late in life! Usually curls like that are from birth lol’

It was so crazy. i was on a double date with my boyfriend and his couple friends and we were at a baseball game. Started pouring. We got drenched. Went to a restaurant and when my hair dried my bf said wow your hair is curly! Lol I was in shock. It was so curly. And it stayed that way. So weird

@missy I wish my hair looked like yours. All I get are these waves and I think it’s due to the humidity where I live. :twisted2:

As a curly haired girl you know every day is different. TY for your kind comment but nowadays I wear my hair almost always in ponytail or half back half down. It’s just easier for me and I like showing off my earrings so I’m fine with it. I think your hair is lovely by the way

Curly hair tends to be drier, so make sure to keep it well-hydrated. Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner that are specifically formulated for curly hair. Additionally, consider incorporating a weekly deep conditioning treatment to provide extra moisture and nourishment.

I started using an Aveda hair mask after reading this thread and it’s helped keep the curls in ringlets. It still looks way better underneath and on top but it’s better than it was before.

Have you tried a Brazilian Blowout? I have shoulder length gray hair that is normally wavy in all the wrong places and frizzy. I did 4 blowouts 6 weeks apart and then stopped to see how my hair would react. It's been 6 months since the last blowout and there's an itty bit of frizz but my hair has stayed relatively straight requiring only a few passes with straightener in a few places. For some reason it blow dried really fast for the 6 wks the blowouts lasted. My stylist told me why that happens but I can't remember what she said. The treatments are spendy; $200 in my area. If my hair completely reverts back to wavy fuzzball, I plan on getting a blowout 2x a year.
