So I know I can't be the only person who has noticed this. I've seen estate/antique pieces (that don't sell...I put them on my watch list just to see if they do or don't sometimes) that are GROSSLY over priced and it just appears the seller has NO CLUE the value of the item they are selling. Here is one example. This person wants over 900.00 for a .25 bezel WG necklace. Now I realize the chain is nice and unique but if I were to buy that piece I would want it for well under the 500.00 mark.

Anyone else see this? I've been tempted many a times to write the seller and explain to them that they are wasting their money on listing fee's bc on one in their right mind is going to pay that price for what they are selling. I haven't (and won't) but I'm assuming that SOMEONE must pay these insane prices because people continue to list them (and relist them) without changing the price (or even doing an auction and setting a reserve just to see what ti will get).

Here is one that I'm talking about now (which is actually quite nicer than a lot of the ones I see relisted. At least this one has clear pictures...a lot of them are all blurry and they relist with the same pics!)

I see it quite often. I just kindof overlook the items.

It's dumb, but I get annoyed when people overprice their stuff. I mean, everyone has a right to sit on stuff and not let it sell, but I can't help it, when I see people relisting things, sometimes for YEARS, way over what secondhand pieces go for, or worn wedding dresses for 10% off retail, I want to message them and tell them to get a clue!

Thank you, vintagelover. All this time I thought I was just off with my ideas about pricing, but Ebay is full of these sellers. Yes, I know gold is high right now, but this stuff is used. It makes me wonder if they are overpaying and then expect their buyers to do the same. Unless the piece is something substantial (or had a famous owner) they shouldn't be priced like they're new. And you're not alone wanting to email them and ask if they're insane.

Ha ditto! I told a seller the item was extremely overpriced once when my offer on a Buy It Now/Best Offer item got rejected. The seller didn't seem to appreciate the advice, though! :cheeky:

It happen often and I hate that! I would like to tell him or her too but I know it's waste of time.

It happen not only in second hand jewels but I already see this with new stock!

It makes me SO mad lol. I don't know why. I see some that are like 20% or more of what I could buy it now new! For example, I was searching for Le Vian piece a few weeks ago, and found the ring I wanted for $150 MORE than if I bought it new at Jareds, who has it in stock.

They're probably basing it on some "appraisal"

The other thing that drives me crazy -- things that are listed as being "custom" or have had expensive alterations priced in. Okay, you got exactly what *you* wanted, but why would that increase its worth to me as a secondhand purchaser?! Sigh... I don't know why it bothers me so much.

You're right to be angry is unacceptable!

Look at it this way... for every clueless seller who list things for way more than they're worth, there's probably another clueless seller listing something for way less than it's worth! :wink2:

I saw the same thing going on on craigslist yesterday. A ring that "appraised" for $5200 so they want $5000 for it.
Or one of those rings that is a cluster of very small chip diamonds that they want $1200 for. What are these people thinking?
