I am so tired of having ugly feet due to dry, cracked skin on my heels.
I really need some suggestions on what to do to remedy this situation... so far I have tired:
-Lotion with socks overnight
-PedEgg
-Daily exfoliation with lotion after (which works pretty well in the winter when I am not wearing sandals most days)

I really want to be able to keep my feet looking like they do when I leave the spa after a pedicure... but cant seem to do this in the summer months (when I am more often not in shoes... hee hee).
So ladies (and gentlemen) are there any remedies that work for you?

TIA

Wear socks around the house especially if you have carpet.

Use an AHA lotion on your feet before bed.

Hi Posh,

I don''t know what everyone else will recommend, but I swear by L''occitane''s Dry Skin Foot Cream. I use it day and night. It keeps my heels nice and smooth.

Thanks for the advice, but what is an AHA lotion? (sorry for my ignorance

I use Bliss Foot Patrol. It also prevents dry itchy legs that often occur during the winter.
Thanks for the recco...

One question to those that are recommending a lotion... will this lotion repair my cracked heels or do I need to start out with them fresh from a pedicure?

I've never had a pedicure (lol), but possibly start with a fresh foot palette and from then on, use the cream. Twice per day. Do not put on top of your feet *if* you go out in the sun as the exfoliates make your skin sensitive to the sun, just on your heels.

I only apply it to my heels in the summer and the rest of the year, use it on my entire feet and legs.

Bliss is sold at both Sephora and Nordstrom, so next time you're in one of those ask for a big sample.

I think I remember Paula Begoin (sp) saying to use Acne Pads on your heels. It's the acid in them that "eats" away at the rough dry skin.
Seems she said to wrap your heel, put a sock on and wear overnight. Maybe you could find more info on her website.

Edited to add the above info from Paula's site. I had part of it right!!

i also have Barny rubbles for feet, so lately (since i am going on vacay soon!) each night i have been washing my feet with warm water and bath salts, ped egg and lofta, and then dry immediately. I wear flip flops all the time, and i hate how icky my feet get during the day. I also do this after i exercise.

They have been doing pretty good!

Alpha Hydroxy Acid. I use Skin Revealing Body Lotion with 10% AHA from Paula Begoun.

Posh, if your feet are fine after a pedicure, then I think it''s just a matter of keeping up with exfoliation. I keep a foot file in the shower and use it on the bottoms of my feet every time I shower - just a quick once over is fine, no heavy sanding is needed if you do it every day. And I actually prefer the super-cheap foot files from Sally Beauty Supply - I think they''re only $1.99. They''re 2-sided, they work very well, and they last a long time.

However, if I''ve neglected my feet for awhile and my heels are one big, nasty callous, then I use a remover called Callous Off (also found at Sally, but I''m sure you can find it elsewhere) - it''s got an acid that really eats away the thick skin. Read the directions carefully, and I would recommend leaving it on for only one minute for the first time, because it''s serious stuff. And don''t use it if you have broken skin - it will burn like heck. After rinsing the Callous Off, your skin will feel slimy, but that''s normal. Just use your foot file to buff away skin and use a good moisturizer afterwards. I even do this routine on my hands, and my 40 year old hands look like 20-something hands.

For lotions, I use either Neutrogena emulsion (not the body lotion, has to be the emulsion) or Ahava mineral foot cream. I then layer Neutrogena hand cream over it, and sometimes I use socks if I''ve layered thickly.

BTW, Posh, your ring is one of the first ones I really noticed when I started lurking on PS over a year ago - I still love it! I didn''t remember your name, but I recognized your ring! Anyway, have a wonderful, relaxing time on your vacation!

bebe -- wow, I would never have thought about acne pads... thanks for getting the info for me, I will give this a try... willing to do almost anything at this point

jcarlylew -- I lol at the Barney Rubble comment haa haa!!! I think maintenance is key, which works for me during the winter when I wear closed shoes more often, but even in summer with daily exfoliation and lotion my feet are still a hot mess!

VegasAngel -- Thanks for the clarification... hmm AHA lotion sounds promising... maybe I need to use that for maintenance instead of regular lotion in the summer.

cellentani -- Wow, thanks for the advice and the compliment on my ring

I am definitely going to pick up some callous remover since this is what the spa uses on my feet to get them nice and soft.

Thank you again to everyone for the recommendations

I think a combination of products will end up working for me since my feet are so stubborn

<<<Heels: Paula''s odd, but tested, recommendation for dry, cracked heels? First, take a Stridex Pad that contains 2% salicylic acid and rub it over the heel to exfoliate it. Then use either cocoa butter, Vaseline or Eucerin cream and really layer it on over the area you just exfoliated. Finally, put on some heavy socks and let it all soak in. She promises that after a week you won''t have dry heels again.>>>

Bebe, does this really work ? I need to do something asap with my heels, because they are so UGLY!

1) Monthly pedicures by someone willing to scrub your feet with the foot brush.
2) Pumice stone every time you shower.
3) Podiatrists Secret foot lotion with socks after every shower.

Lots of work, but I too hate cracked heels so I am willing to do it.

I think you have gotten great advice and I don''t really have anything more to add except that I think the key, too, is KEEPING UP WITH IT. Every night (and maybe every morning, too), you will have to be vigilant with whatever you use. But it is worth it. Our cold, dry PA winters are SERIOUSLY hard on our skin, so I know what you are going through!!!
