I know there was a discussion recently on how much people paid for alterations, but what about pressing? I''ve only been to one shop so far that had a dress I was really considering. They quoted me $150 just to press the dress. How much should stuff like this cost? I live in L.A. if that makes a difference.

Again, that shop is insane. My shop pressed my dress for free when they did the alterations...RUN from that store!

Mine pressed the dress for free, too. That''s ridiculous, delivering a beautiful, ready-to-wear gown post-alterations should be a part of the alterations price.

I didn''t get my dress altered at a bridal shop, just a local seamstress, so she couldn''t press it, but she would have carefully ironed/steamed it. I instead insisted on taking it somewhere to get pressed, and it cost $70. It was the biggest waste for me though cause the dress wasn''t really wrinkled, adn I sat down once before the ceremony and it got totally wrinkled from that.

Ditto. My seamstress quoted me $200 to do everything I needed, and that price includes pressing and packing it up so it doesn''t wrinkle. I''m assuming she''ll do that last part w/ tissue and some kind of paper/cardboard dress form. I think I posted this previously, but she''s doing the hem, bustle, darts in the bust where there''s a ton of beading, and taking it in most of the way along the back zipper.

Wow, thanks you guys! Who knew?

Seriously - that should be included in alterations. Maybe you can just use a steamer? Or is that a nono?

Hi!

My seamstress charges $60 to press the dress, the dry cleaners charge $125. My friends'' who''ve also had their dresses pressed were also charged for it separately, so it might depend where you live.

Sheesh, I wish mine was free

Our salon charged $80 or $90, but they comped it. And I had them do it twice.
