@missy - Thank you very much. This information will be quite useful. Now I need to pray that he will one day be able to leave skilled nursing and come back to his home. God willing.
Unfortunately I'm unable to help (my older dog is on a kidney diet but might not be the same for humans though I have to reduce her phosphorus as low as possible) Lots of hugs to your family as dialysis is rough.

@missy she def. misses it! The good is that she's great now, and I have to start like NOW as you're probably aware that it can go downhill quick.
She ate 80% raw, but now as we try to get her values under control, have moved to a more bag based diet until I have some time to know what I'm doing. She still get turkey neck but its MUCH smaller quantity wise. The vet is OK with it as long as I make sacrifices in other places and her values don't go crazy. I've tried other things and it will not work so.... She also misses ice cream night which is where I could give her vegetables in the form of ice cream that she would eat. I gotta work on a substitute for that but she's OK to miss that.
Aww poor baby. I am glad that she is doing really well now though and yes it can change quickly. Sending her lots of healing vibes. I can understand missing ice cream as that would be hardest for me too. Can she eat coconut or almond ice cream substitutes? Or (and I apologize as I have no clue) can she eat bananas? I used to make an amazing banana ice cream that was so yummy and creamy just like "real" ice cream.
