I''d say I''m pretty liberal, in general, both with my views and my lifestyle. Well, maybe liberal isn''t the correct term--what is it called when you live your life *differently* than the mainstream, in many ways? (Example: I don''t take traditional western meds, don''t frequent western doctors very often, don''t buy food that isn''t ethically raised and slaughtered, that sort of thing.) DH and I often feel like we don''t fit in here in the US. What does that make us?

Otherwise:

I have tattoos and a lot of piercings, most of which I don''t sport anymore, but they''re still there. (The piercings, that is.) I''m drawn to subcultures where self expression is emphasized, even if I don''t actively participate in them, I''m a fan.

To the bold, I would have NOT guessed that at all. At least from what I know of you through these boards, which is very little.

From what you list in the first paragraph you seem crunchy.

I know, I know. I seem like a stuffy, prim little white glove wearer, don''t I?
I''m not at all, really. I just have many more opportunities on here to share my etiquette knowledge than I do to share anything else.

And WL--I could pretty much ditto everything you wrote about your own lifestyle other than the parenting bit, because I''m not yet a parent. I''ve never heard of being "crunchy" before, but I looked it up in the Urban Dictionary and I think it definitely applies. My upbringing was very crunchy, too. Crunchy with a side of Miss Manners, you could say.

As I like to say of my parents: You can take the immigrants out of the old world, let their hair grow long, and feed them GORP, but they''ll always carry a bit of the old world with them. For my mom, that bit happened to be a concern for propriety. Odd mix, huh?
