I really want to see Ani Difranco in concert.
And I''m super bummed that the Indigo Girls aren''t playing Ravinia this year.

Believe it or not, Journey was one of the best shows I''ve ever seen. Besides S&G of course.
I love the Indigo Girls! The last time I saw them (years ago), their opening band was Kay''s Choice. I think KC broke up a while back, but I loved their music almost as much as the Indigo Girls''. Ani DiFranco would be cool.

I can''t remember the last concert we went to. I think it was Coldplay -- maybe 2 years or 3 years ago. No, wait, maybe it was Paul Simon. Wow, we need to get out more. We used to go to shows much more often. A few years ago we saw Sarah McLachlan, Prince, and Madonna in the same summer. That was fun.

It''s a concert desert here.
My best concert experience ever was seeing Nina Simone at the Barbican. She was scary! The audience kept calling out for her to sing a particular song and eventually she began to play it to lots of cheers and clapping from the audience, but a little way into the piano intro of that song she suddenly stopped dead and sat motionless at the piano staring at the piano keys and there followed a long silence. Then she slowly turned her head to the audience, fixed us with her stare, and in her deep voice said " I don''t want to sing that song and I won''t!" you could have heard a pin drop and nobody dared move. Then, as if to continue teaching us a lesson, she sang her version and in my opinion the best version of ''I Did it My Way" Riveting and demanding of her audience.

i''ve had the pleasure of seeing ms. di franco live several times, she blew me away.

no plans for concerts yet. we tend to be last minute about these things but the baby may mean no concerts this summer, a first for me in something like 17 years. we''ll see.

We are seeing a bunch of shows this summer, though there are a ton more I wish I was seeing! We''re in the Chicago area, so lots of great shows come through town.

Sting (probably one of my favorite performers to see live)
Crosby, Stills & Nash (never seen before)
BoDeans & Big Head Todd (never seen BoDeans, but have seen BHT about five times)
My Morning Jacket (this will be my third MMJ show)

First three are all at Ravinia, where we''ll sit out on the lawn (with our wine and snacks, like Haven!). We were there this past Friday to see Dave Brubeck and Ramsey Lewis.

Love summertime concerts!

The only concert I have coming up is Lady Gaga. Strawdermangrl is going to be my date!

I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (remember him?) back in the day, and they were really great! I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you that Crosby is physically well and that everyone is still talking to everyone else because our concert was cancelled last year or the year before (?) because David was very ill and they were feuding.

bumping for more concerts...

Best concert I went to was last year, The MOTHER of all concerts: the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden. It was BEYOND awesome! We went on night 2 of the 2 night concert series and saw

Aretha Franklin
U2
Metallica

PLUS Surprise Guests (which resulted in the audience screaming and freaking out for each one of them)

Sting
Mick Jagger
Bruce Springsteen
Patti Smith
Jeff Beck
Fergie
Black Eyed Peas
Jerry Lee Lewis
Lou Reed
Ozzy Osbourne

The highlight was when U2 was playing and Mick Jagger came out on the stage. It was awesome. The weirdest thing was that Mick looked ten feet tall even though we were on the second tier. He has an enormous presence, a real charisma. He completely outshone everyone else on the stage, he actually appeared physically taller. And we know he''s not, he''s average height. But he was the same height as Bono and Bruce, when they stood together, so it was pure presence. I''ve never seen anything like it, it was plain bizarre. Then he did Gimme Shelter with Fergie, and that girl can SING! She nailed it. I think she is wasted with the Peas, she has a great voice. Patti Smith seemed to be well, kind of out of it. She had to restart "Because the Night" and Bono had to mouth the words to her the second time. It''s not like she had a lot of songs to remember.

Here''s a NYTimes article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/02/arts/music/02rock.html?_r=1

That concert totally spoiled me for any other concert. If you want to see it yourself, they have an HBO special on it, but it''s mostly from the boring first night and it''s highly edited and but still pretty good. There''s supposed to be a DVD soon.

It''ll take me years to get over that one. . .
