Fun thread!!! Well, as some of you know I had a crown put on a tooth followed by the tooth deciding it didn't like that and wanting to die - hence a root canal shortly thereafter. While becoming a regular at the dentist all the women in the office would migrate over to look at the ring...first the xray technician (uh, could you get that plastic thing out of my mouth before stopping to admire the ring and calling your coworkers over to take a look?!), the student observer, the hygenist (if you stop scraping I'll tell you about the ring...), the endodontist (first keep the novocaine up and when I can't feel anything we can talk about the ring...)
I had comments ranging from "I love that setting, where did you find it because I've never seen anything like it" to "what's that teardrop shape of diamond called again - it's so big and sparkly!" to "I wanted to ask you about it before but I thought it couldn't possibly be real..."
That was only last week. I can't remember prior to that! I will say that it's amazing what a setting can do - nobody noticed the pear before the thin shank, thin halo I have now, and now I get stopped about it at least 2-3 times a week. It's fun. I let everybody who wants to have a closer look hold it. Most ask to try it on. Sure, why not?
One person in Macy's asked "Did you get those from Harry Winston? They look like they came from Harry Winston."
An amusing story: I was in Caldwell's downtown Philadelphia store one Saturday a few years ago, and a man was looking at rings with his fiancee'. He looked at my rings and told me to hand one of them to his fiancee' to try on. When I said no, he complained to the store manager! He thought I worked in the store and wouldn't let them try on the merchandise.
A man in a bar once told me "That rock's lighting up this room". (Same ring the guy in Caldwell's wanted his fiancee' to try on.)
A lady in the Grill Room at the Westin in Philadelphia walked over to me and said (about my canary diamond) "I noticed your ring from the opposite end of the bar and had to come over for a closer look."
At a recent party in the downtown Philadelphia Tiffany's, an elderly lady pointed to my bracelet and then put her hand over her heart.
A woman in the row behind me at the theatre tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I owned a jewelry store.
I was interviewing someone for a job at my company & since we''d be working together, she asked if I told her a little about myself. Since we had just gotten engaged, I mentioned that I was newly engaged. She replied, "Oh I couldn''t stop staring at your ring - it''s so beautiful & sparkley!" She works here now
While searching for loose diamonds at the swankiest jewel place in town two weeks ago, two sales people I know there immediately commented on the new diamond earrings David Keeling made for me, and exclaimed "those earrings are absolutely beautiful". This in turn, prompted all the shoppers to look at my ears.....
