I am normally pro dental school, that''s how I got my wisdom teeth out. But oral surgery involving jawbone, nerves, etc, I''m chicken. I don''t want to be the first implant somebody''s done. The person whose doing my implant is someone who does 200-300 a year for the past 10 years, and that''s the way I like it.

I do have to figure out how we can both cover the bills and live normally this year. I already don''t spend money on: clothes, cosmetics, bags, shoes, hair, cars etc. We will need to figure out ways to save money for fun within our very limited budget or else I''ll go crazy/depressed. I am thankful that we are employed; otherwise I would pull the tooth and do nothing.

We WERE going to put it towards remodeling our bathroom (long overdue, replacing the floor and putting in a sink vanity), but I broke my tooth. All that and then some is going towards fixing the tooth

. Another year of no gemstone/jewelry-buying. Can you tell I''m bummed?
Ah, that sucks! We just lost our dental insurance because my husband quit his job (to work for himself again) and I was talking to a friend and she recommended having dental work done at a dental school rather than at the dentist. Supposely, it''s just as safe and you can save quite a bit of money.
Going off topic for a sec... I have friends who just finished dental school and they highly recommended the school for cheap dental care. Of course they were also getting experience.. but there is a dental instructor (i.e. dentist) there at all times supervising everything. At the dental school by me though there is usually a line in the morning of people ready to get their work done, so I would call to see how their appointments work!

As for my tax refund.. It''s been about the same every year since I graduated college.. So.. I''m planning dividing into three parts.. one for foundation repair (yippee??), one for savings, and one for my graduation present for myself fund!
Yep, for fillings and basics the school is great! A few months back when we still had insurance we went to a higher end dentist and while my son''s dentist was cleaning his teeth, I could hear a conversation in the next section over about a woman needing a root canal and they decided to do it that day. As I said, this was a REAL office, not a school. About 15 minutes later, the lady screamed at the top of her lungs!

Going to a regular dentist doesn''t necessarily mean safe!

I''m not sure if I''m getting a refund (still waiting on my other W2), but if I do it''d be very miniscule. I try to keep it down as low as possible, or owe a little bit.

FI owes a couple hundred dollars this year ..

I have no idea - our finances are such a jumble right now... money is coming in and going out hand over fist and once things settle we should be able to save pretty well, but we''re going to have to buy TWO cars as soon as we move back to the states and we''ll have a child in college as well. I want to buy a diamond band of some sort so bad I can''t stand it - and I''m gonna too as soon as I figure out when I''ll be back in the states to get it lol

Cehra I totally know what you mean, big inflows, outflows of cash but jewelry is always last on the list. The thread on tsavorites is making me green with envy! I may have to take a break from pricescope if it gets to be too much!

Hope you get your diamond band when everything settles down.

The vast majority is going to DH''s student loans but I''ll probably buy something smaller like a kindle or a cute travel bag as well. Next year will probably be the last year we get anything back so I might as well it enjoy it a little bit while I can.

Ours will probably go into savings again. Last year we did buy new patio furniture for the back deck and front porch, and a new grill, but other than that we put it all into savings.

Well just did our taxes and will be getting about 2500 back. We''ve always treated it as "found" money in that we could do with as we please. I think we''ll allow ourselves 100-200 of that each for fun money (doesn''t have to be spent now, but it''s our release valve ), rest go into savings to pay for increased expenses this year.

Jewelry wise, the only thing I really want is to set my demantoid into a yellow gold necklace.
But, there are things around the house I may want more (nightstand is a big one).
