My sister in law is finally getting a dog after about 3 years of being jealous of every dog owner she sees. She was working so much so she didn't feel it was fair to the dog, but now her schedule has opened up and she's ready!

She's been looking into cockapoos but it's been so hard to find one. We live in Washington state and we have web looking anywhere from Oregon to Idaho. And every person we contact either just sold their last one or they only have females. She's wanting a male with a cream or red color.

So question is, we've read so much about them, but I would like to know what actual owners think of their babies?

Temperament? What size? (isn't there like 3 different sizes?) Energy level? Physical endurance?

Yay for your sister! I don't know anything about cockapoos, personally, but being a doggie mom is the best!

Has she considered rescue? I wonder if it would be easier to find a male in the color she likes. Bonus usually, if you can find a rescue that uses fostering, is she'll know quite a bit about that particular dog's temperament and personality and may get a bonus of them already being housebroken or partially trained.

Rescue doesn't have to mean giving up the puppy stage either, you can find them in the 6 month range and they still need plenty of learning and have lots of puppyness left in them!

I've had both a breeder dog and rescue dogs before. Both are great. I'd do either again depending on what I was looking for. But puppies are HARD. They are SOOO much work. Fun! But work!

Going the breeder route, just make sure it's a good, reputable breeder so that you don't end up with adverse health problems. Wanting a male in a certain color is FINE, but try not to let the excitement of wanting the dog NOW to get in the way of doing it RIGHT.

Please come back and share pictures!! I love puppies! (and for clarification, I call them all puppies, whether 2 months or 10 years!)

ETA: I'm a miniature schnauzer girl :)

I know someone with two Cockapoo's and like most spaniels the energy level is VERY high! He could have done with spending a bit more time training his because they jump up a lot, but they are very good natured and friendly - I am scared of most dogs so the jumping up would normally freak me out but it doesn't at all. They do look like a lot of work on the grooming front though.

Lovely dogs, I hope your sister finds one.

I just realized my post may have sounded a little preachy. Sorry about that, it wasn't my intention. I more/less meant to get the point across that good breeders or rescue are both good avenues for getting dogs. And that puppies are great, if you are willing to put in the work, and if not, older dogs make great companions too. There is no right or wrong, it's just making sure you do what is right for you.

Good luck!

I didn't get preachy at all! So it's all good! My sister in law is going to go check out some puppies tomorrow morning! Finally found someone that has some boys :appl:

They look adorable!!!

oh my!! It is hard to go and "look" at a puppy... people usually come home with one, under those circumstances! Just sayin'!! We did that with our very first dog --- we'll just go for a drive. We'll just go this way. We'll just go pop in at this address. We'll just "LOOK"... yeah, right!!

Those do all look so precious! I'd be more concerned about the temperment as opposed to the colour. "It's what's inside that counts". Because he will be hers, she'll love it regardless of the fur colour! And - training any dog, from the get go, is key.

Hehe, I've never known anyone to just go *look* at a puppy without taking one home. When we got my family's dog years ago, our first family pet, my dad was very insistent with my mom that they were NOT bringing one home that day. It was a surprise for my sister and me. Well, apparently as soon as he saw the little smooshballs, he began playing with them. One in particular bonded with him, and my dad cooed, "of course we're taking you home, sweetie. Coochie, coochie, coo..." Yeah. That's the story anyway.

These puppies are ADORABLE! I want one.

if they weren't so far away, I might consider it. I'd like the one on the right in the first picture, please.

I love my cockatoo! Energetic and affectionate and just about the closest thing to a real life teddy bear you can get. People literally used to think she was a toy.

Good! I'm glad it didn't read negatively to you.

The puppies are adorable! Let us know what she decides! I have to agree with Enerchi, best thing for her to do is not go just by color or sex. Spend some time with all the puppies and see if one of the bonds to her.

Oh my god, I don't even really like dogs and I want one!!

omg all those puppies are so cute!!!! I don't have any experience with cockapoos, but good luck choosing one between all those cuties!!

Omg, it's hard to imagine anything cuter than those pups!!! I'm entering into cuteness overload here!! There's no way I could go look at these pooches and not come home with one!

So my sister in law got herself a little baby yesterday! His name is Leopold, Leo for short.

He is the cutest ever! Of course, minus my own baby girls

Fell asleep while playing with the giraffe I got him

Pooped puppy

He keeps posing for pictures! He'll be playing and playing and he'll see a camera, stop what he's doing, pose and continue. :wavey:

Leo's soooo cute, YayTacori!

Cuteness overload!!

Oh!!!! he is SOOOOOOO ADORABLE!!!! I love that cute puppy phase where they could be in the midst of a 100km/h rip, and then WOOOPS! gotta nap and they crash!

Leo is a beautiful young man - enjoy!!! (and post more photos - he's too cute to just have so little of him to admire!) :wink2:

What a sweetheart!

Oh my gosh, he's so cute I can't take it!!! He's just...perfect! Thanks so much for sharing pics with us, I just love this little guy!

That baby is soooo cute! I love him, I want him! Congratulations to your sis!

We need some dust... Poor baby has been having diarrhea and now he's pooping blood... The vet thinks he has parasites so a stool sample has been sent.

Often the deworming medication clears that up straight away. Yup - get that stool sample to the vet. You'll probably notice little white worms when you stoop and scoop .... it should gross you out for quite a while! :knockout:

Yup, it was parasites. Some kind of traveler one. He was a stage four out of 5 which they thought was weird cuz he was so hyper. He should have been super mellow. Which means my sis is in for it! Haha now without the parasites he's gonna be a handful :)

Aw, poor little thing! Glad to hear it's been figured out- wow, he's really going to be full of energy now hehe!

I thought this was about birds. :?

Oh lawd those are some cuties. Glad the new pup is feeling a bit better now w/some meds. The sleepy pix with the giraffe just

I keep coming back to these pics. Leo's coloring is beautiful and he's beyond adorable.

My brother woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't find Leo. This is where he was sleeping. And how he was sleeping haha

He fell asleep while stretching and so his legs are straight haha so cute
