I started a similar thread last year (What are you getting for your SO) and it was really helpful to see what others were getting their friends and families for Christmas (I got some great gift ideas from that thread!). Anyone want to share this year?
1.gif

BF: He got a kitten, I got a kitten
Mom: I'm getting her a puppy. He's actually arriving today! (Unfortunately, our family dog of 13 years passed away a couple weeks ago).
Dad: No idea yet!
Best friends: I'm getting a couple of the Red Hen pendants from Sally (HeartofWaterJewels) on Etsy (in rose quartz and amethyst)

I''m not finished shopping yet. I kinda thought I was, but when I reviewed it all, there are are gaping holes !

DH - Charcoal Wool lightweight bomber jacket

1972 Edition of Texas Football Magazine - he was mentioned as a "college recruit to watch for". DH is going to be very surprised

New Garage Floor - epoxy system

Car Cleaning accessories - brushes, cloths ... (he is obsessed w/ clean cars)

Clothing

DS - Computer parts

Lots of clothing

iPhone

DD - can''t mention here, she might see it, ;-)

Good friends - Matouk Monogramed towels from Neiman Marcus, 4 sets
Large Canvas Texas A&M tote bag (towels are in this)
Rebecca Rather (Texas chef) cookbook
Remote control battery candle sets
Foam Texas A&M drinking cups
Cusinart Griddler
Barbecue tools

BF - #8 and #9 Waterford Christmas Flutes

Daughter''s BF - Gas Powered Leaf Blower
Sweater
Car Cleaning Accessories
Gift Cert. to a car detailing site
Jack Black travel shave kit

SIL - Bath & Body Works Hand Soaps - she can''t get enough she says
Collection of B&B Fragrance - shower cream, lotion, colonge (50.00 limit)

Still have about 6 people to buy gifts for, hoping I can nail that down soon.

In my immediate family (brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins), each person brings a gift
girls bring a girl gift and guys bring a guy gift, $50.00 limit, then we have a fun, spirited exchange,
some opting to steal a gift from another. It works and takes the worry out of buying or hunting
down a special item. Some of the gifts are gift cards - those are always popular!

I've posted before about how none of dh's family gets me anything, sooooo, I'm off the hook with them.

Kids: My son wants a lego set. Of course it's $100. Legos are crazily priced. They both mades lists and hung them on the fridge. I'm getting my older son a "Starcraft" mousepad because he loves the game. Can't remember what else, but will set a budget because usually I end up spending WAY too much. With stockings, etc., at least $500. This year, I'd like to keep it under $250.

Husband: Probably just fill his stocking. He just bought the boat and that's sort of his present for the next 20 years. (Supposedly it's "our" boat so I guess I won't get anything either

)

Friends: I always give my best friend makeup. She always is wanting new mascaras, etc. The rest, I may just give cards and edible treats.

Me: I just bought a new purple coat. Will keep it in my suitcase and then bust it out and wear it for the family celebration. That way I'll feel better when nobody hands me a package!

DH knows I've been wanting a purple coat. It seems best to just make an occasion for it. hehehe

PS the red hen pendants are so cute! love that idea.

Eeeek! I haven''t even started yet!

My siblings and I are all poor students so we have an agreement to just not buy each other stuff but to put our money together to get somthing for mum and dad- no ideas yet as to what to get them.

I will probably both buy and make something for BF- buy might be some aftershave he wants, make might be a christamas stocking as it''s his first Christamas in NZ (and first away from his family).

We have started for BF''s parents because their''s needs to be posted soon to get there for Christmas- NZ calander for his mum and Kiwi christamas tree ordaments and a classic NZ cookbook for his dad, framed photo of BF and I and thinking about doing his mum a little album, stil need somthing else for his dad.....

Oooh, this is a great thread!
We're not big on stuff, so most of our gifts are a bit different than the norm.

DH and I exchange handwritten letters for the holidays. Best. Gift. Ever.

My mom: Dog training for her pups who seriously need it; and a photo album filled with retouched photos of her mom (my grandma who passed away in May) and her own childhood; three framed photos of my grandma holding my mom when she was a baby.

My aunt and uncle: A different version of the photo album I mentioned above; framed photos of my grandma with my uncle when he was a baby, and of my grandma with their three kids.

My sister: I'm making her a sock monkey but it's going to be a sock weasel, instead. I've called her The Weasel for years, so it's a gag gift. Oh, and I'm going to make a little kippah and tefillin for the sock weasel, too. (She's in rabbinical school. We like gag gifts.)

Cousins (female): Handmade sock monkeys for all three; friendship bracelet box filled with string and such for the oldest one; books for the younger ones.

My dad: I have no idea. I'm thinking of telling him I'd like to take him out for an evening of dinner and a movie. Our relationship has been very strained since he left my mom last September, but I'm trying.

DH's father: We're thinking of filling a digital photo frame with family pictures.

Niece: Handmade sock monkey; beads for her jewelry making

Nephew: Handmade sock monkey; some sort of science experiment kit.

DH's younger male cousins: Books (we get a list of books they like from their mom); Best Buy gift card for the 17-year-old; Science experiment kits for the younger guys

That's about all the gifts we give. We don't exchange with our friends, we all go out for a big meal together, instead.

Adults will be getting jars of homemade apple butter, pear butter, pumpkin butter, and orange butter. I''m really looking forward to making and decorating this year, it''ll be the first time FI and I are crafty with gifts together

No idea what to get the not-kiddies-not-teens.

Usually I have most of my shopping done by now. So far I have NOTHING done. I must get busy soon. You are all doing great though.

Science experiment set. Fun! My son got one from a friend when he was in second grade. How old is your newphew. .

Here''s the one he recieved:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3581840

Just wanted to say that I got a science experiment set and microscope when I was quite young and I LOVED it. I''m sure it contributed to my love of science. Great gift idea!

We enacted a universal no-gifts rule last year and I LOVE it!

People still get things here and there, but it removes the obligation... which is how I like gift giving to be, anyhow
1.gif

I might get hubs a magic mouse (apple) because he does really really want one.

My brother called a couple of months ago and said "We already got you a gift. You don't have to get us anything, though." So of course I then felt like I had to get him and his wife something. She loves loves loves Disney, so I convinced the rest of the family to go in on three Thomas Kinkade Disney Series prints for them.

No gifts.

I''ll give gifts randomly throughout year, but don''t obey the holiday protocol.

Great gifts and gift ideas guys! I really like the Kiva.org one - I might do that for BF someday (I know he''s a big supporter of micro-lending).

Adult friends and family are getting a set of two color-coordinated pot holders, hand-knit by moi! I''m planning to put a small cooking-related useful thing with each, probably a silicone spatula -- color-coordinated, of course -- for the non-drinkers and a bottle of local wine for those who would appreciate that. I''m also knitting up pot holders hostess gifts for holiday giving. Additional special gifts for some friends that like to lavish gifts (cookbook and moi-made apron for one, art magazine subscription for another). I''m not sure yet what to get my four n&n''s. Each will get a personal gift, and a contribution made to Heifer International in their name -- I''ll bring them catalogs tomorrow and they''ll get to select the animal they''d like to contribute toward.

At work, I take my staff out to lunch and give a small something to fellow managers... it''s usually a box of Sees candy or something, but might just give them a potholder too, that they can use when the nuke things at work. We''re a "green" operation so they might like an alternative to using lots of paper towels as hotpads. I also give holiday greeting cards to everyone in our branch and people a few select people that I interact with regularly for work. A lot of the staff seem to really appreciate these, maybe because so few people exchange cards these days.

no idea but we''re going to have FULL bags. I will probably do the shopping for extended family at the last minute in san diego and I have requested that gifts to our kids be very small as our bags will already be full to the max and I''m hoping that our kids will take a santa raincheck to get some stuff in china or maybe we''ll just give them money or something - I know that''s pathetic but I have no clue what to get them that is tiny tiny... mp3 players maybe?

Wine for the grown ups, gift cards for the kids over 10, toys of some sort for those under 10. Easy.

We get my parents a case of wine every year, and a few years ago, I just ordered more from the wine merchant we use and did no other shopping. It worked great, but then I don't think I know any non-drinkers! I chose wines that I either know the recipient likes or that I think they will like based on what I know of their taste, it isn't completely random. For my best friend, for example, I get a bottle of red, white and rose wine from the area of France where she went on her honeymoon.

Bump! Anyone get any good shopping done on Black Friday?
1.gif

For my mom, I'm also getting a photobook of pics of our old dog, and a digital picture frame.

I think I'm going to add a digital picture frame for my dad too - he's overseas so it'll be nice for him to have. And he needs a new wedding band, lol. So I might help my mom with that.

Haha, plenty of good shopping, just nothing for OTHERS! Ooops.

For DH: A messenger bag and slippers
For BIL: a PJ set ala Hugh Hefner
For SIL: wine glasses and a home buying guide
For MIL: books off her Amazon list
For Dad: CLOTHES. He''s lost 80 lbs+, and needs new clothes pretty desperately
For Goddaughter: A Madame Alexander doll - I''m so excited that she''s finally the age for one
For Gma: Culver''s gift certificate - odd gift I know, but she''ll love it

DH and I trying our hand at a new holiday tradition this year - vacation weekend before going home - so we''re going to try to do some of our shopping over our weekend retreat. It''s mostly small businesses/boutiques/gourmet foods, so the following folks will be shopped for there: Mom, SMIL, FIL, BFF, SSIL, anyone else I''ve forgotten about until last minute.

And the people that are big ?s: SBIL, his girlfriend, SIL''s boyfriend

Everyone else gets a loaf of almond or orange poppy seed bread. :)

Omg, I love Ab Fab!!! My mom and her friends used to watch, last year for Christmas she bought me the box set because she remembered how much I loved that show! I was pretty young when Ab Fab first started so I wasn''t really allowed to watch it then.

As for my Christmas shopping list.. I always wait until the last minute to buy presents, I''m sooo bad at coming up with ideas. I do know what I''m giving my sister, I''m having an amethyst ring being made by JKT right now. The amethyst is from a matching pair I bought from BB, I haven''t decided what to do with mine yet. I was going to have matching rings made up, I still might. I''m pobably going to give my dad and brother clothes and books/dvds.. I think my dad needs a new wallet too. My mom is really hard to buy for, in the last two months for her birthday and anni I bought her Chanel perfume, earrings, and a Kate Spade wallet.. I''m all out of ideas for her..

We haven''t gotten much done yet. I''m hoping to get it done this weekend if mom will watch the kids.

So far, we''ve gotten the kids each one of those balls w/the handle you sit on and bounce around. London might be too tall for it tho. We''ve gotten them each a big container of little animals. One of wild animals like lions and rhinos, the other of farm animals. I''d like to get Trapper a play tool bench w/tools..not sure what else to get London yet.

JD is "still thinking" about what he wants. I want stones for my 3 stone ring if Dana can find them by then. Otherwise, I''ve no clue what I''d want. Maybe scrapbooking stuff..I''m a bad mom and don''t have anything done for the kids pictures.

My parents..they always get ticked off, well, my dad does, if we buy them anything, so we keep it to the BARE minimum. I had tossed the idea around of doing a scrapbook for dad w/all his Marines stuff in it. I''d have to get my butt in gear and get busy tho, if that''s what I want to do. Mom, no clue. Some sort of scrapbook/photo album w/the kids in it maybe. I''m thinking to add to it some of the kid''s artwork.

My bff, I was thinking a ring I saw on Etsy..but I didn''t save it and now I can''t find it. Her 3 kids, I would like to do stockings w/their names on them, but I want her to look at them first. We don''t normally buy for each other and kids..mainly b/c I could never afford it. This year we can, so I want to do something.

1 other person I''d like to get a little something for, but that one''s hard b/c I don''t want there to feel like there''s obligation to do something back. Just wanted to do it as a thank you.

hahaha and for my brother-one of these bunnies from spidercamp on Etsy. They also have odd stickers we''d like to stock up on for when he moves back home this Summer..I''m particularly fond of the Cheese ones and For veterinary use only ..I think they would make lovely decorations one day while he''s at work. This would be for a late Christmas present to myself you see.
