Sending strength to everyone caught up in the terrible situation in Christchurch, New Zealand. :(sad

There are awful scenes being shown on TV here in Australia. I'm just hoping that somehow, fatalities are minimal.

I didn't know about this. Thank you for posting, Rae. Hope all is well with klewis and our other members in New Zealand.

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend

Some of our medical collegues were at a conference in Christchurch and are knee deep helping out, it's just heartbreaking beyond belief. DH was so sad to see the state of the beautiful church in the city square, where we were only a few years back. I'm hoping like mad that the death toll doesn't rise, but there are SO many people trapped and unaccounted for. It's a tragedy beyond comprehension. And the aftershocks are continuing.

NZ PSers, please please chime in if you can to let us know you're alright. We're thinking of you all and your loved ones.

:( it is so sad what is happening - my heart goes out to the people in NZ

Hope all the NZ Psers are safe too. :(sad

Prayers for all NZ'ers. Hoping for the best for all people affected.

I have a friend from college that is currently living there. I'm not sure if they were ableto get their things, but they were able to make it to Queensland. Glad to hear that he was ok.

So scary and unexpected. Sending lots of prayers their way, and hoping that there aren't many more that are still buried.

Rae and other PSers - Thank you so much for thinking of New Zealanders right now and of course all nationalities who are caught up in this.

I feel for the people of Christchurch. In September last year the city was hit with a 7.1 magnitude quake that caused extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure but on that occasion thankfully, no lives were lost, largely due to the timing of the quake which struck at 4.30 am. We all marvelled at how lucky they were. The aftershocks from that September earthquake have been relentless, they've experienced close to 5000 earthquakes since then.
I think there would not be a NZer who doesn't know of someone affected by this. My friends who live there are fine although their houses have been damaged.

Deb - I live far from this, the opposite end of the country, so I'm fine. Thank you very much for your kind thoughts.
We're so lucky to have the support of the Australian, US & British teams that are assisting the NZ search teams.

Thanks again.

Death toll is now 98 with 226 still missing.

I have to say, watching the news over here is pretty horrific :((

I feel so so sad hearing about the earthquake and devastation. I was in Christchurch two years ago and thought it was a lovely city in an amazing country. Not to mention, I have a college friend and one of my fave college profs living in NZ now (though thankfully both are on the N. Island and are ok). My heart goes out to the victims and survivors both.

it is indeed a horrible thing.

victims: RIP
injured: please heal quickly
rescuers: do not give up
Kiwi's: stay safe
