do you know anything about the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago? What is it's general relation to the good shopping along Michigan and Oak/Rush (which I assume is still good?) Any favorite shops around there? It appears on the map to be located near Millenium Park and Shedd etc.

Ame, the Palmer House is down in the Loop. So yes, you will be near(er) the Shedd and the museums, but if you want to be near the good shopping on Michigan Avenue there are more north options, like the Intercontinental or the Hyatt. That being said, everything is a pretty quick/cheap cab ride (well under $20, usually less than $10 based on the locations we're talking about here), so if you have an affinity for one hotel over another, go with that.

Thanks!! I was hoping you would chime in.

The other one she asked about was the Courtyard Chicago Downtown/Riverwalk, which on TripAdvisor has better reviews than Palmer...I told her to just pick one bec I can figure out shopping.

Ame, when is she coming? We are having the NATO summit here over the weekend of the 19th and things are going to be a bit crazy (and not in a good way...).

I would pick the Coutyard over the Palmer House BTW, just from a location standpoint. Easier to Michigan Avenue, and she'll have to take a taxi to the museums either way.

It's going to be almost all of my immediate fam for a wedding up there. 4th of July week. I thikn the wedding is the 6th at some loft venue. We're trying to figure out accommodations still but Ill tell my mom that comment about the hotels though.

AME, I come to Chicago for work a lot. I've stayed at The Avenue Crown Plaza and at The Allerton on several occasions. The Allerton is on the corner of Michigan and Huron and The Avenue is half a block down on Huron. I like them both, though I do think I like The Allerton a touch better. The Raffaello and The Westin are other options, further up Michigan around the Hancock Bldg. I've stayed at The Raffaello, have not stayed at The Westin.

I've stayed at The Palmer House Hilton before as well. It's very nice, but if you want to walk out the door and hit the shops on Michigan, I'd choose something else.

Normally when just DH and I go, we stay at the Allegro which I think is above the Chrysler Theater (?) and near one of my favorite restaurants, Petterinos. Since this is intended as more of a family vaca, I think my parents are trying to find something nearer to stuff than we normally are. There's also potential that we could end up in Evanston near my cousins.

We just stayed there during our wedding weekend! There's a ton of stuff to do down there. Right on State St in the shopping district, easy to Millenium Park and up to Michigan... great spot.

excellent, thank you!
