Hi all! I haven''t posted here since way back in the day when i was engaged, but i am now helping my best friend plan her wedding and will be very involved in design stuff especially - she is paying for everything herself with her fiancee and wants to keep the budget as low as possible.

I''m looking for any fun ceremony decor ideas - her site is outdoors (kind of a modern looking wide open city scape site) and doesn''t have a gazebo or tree or anything already in place where the ceremony will take place. So we want to have something marking the ceremony space besides an aisle, and aren''t so interested in a traditional white or iron arch (her style is a little more modern/funky).

We''d be buying supplies and DIY''ing whatever it is. ideas so far are 2 large pommanders or arrangements on columns or poles anchored somehow, or maybe a chuppah like structure involving wood and fabric.

Does anyone have any specific ideas or pics of decor along these lines that can be DIY''d? I liked the idea of the big manzanita branches (sp??) anchored into pots and decorated, but she has nixed that one!

Personally, I like a backdrop of some sort unless you have water or beautiful full shrubbery and palms. If it is out in the open, I think your idea of having something set up is a good one. It sounds like she is a not a drapery fabric kind of gal, so maybe using a screen of some sort. They have many beautiful modern screens at Pier One and Cost Plus and I am sure you could find some online. They are very inexpensive so you could even use two and get creative with them. I dunno. I am not the creative type and I was just thing about what I would do if I had nothing.

Modern/Funky.... I am just not coming up with anything right now. But I am sure that the other more experienced PS''ers will have some ideas for you.

Good Luck!!

I am doing an outdoor ceremony under some tall eucalyptus trees. To mark the altar, we are renting 2 plaster pillars and placing dramatic arrangements on top of them. I actually posted here for ideas a month ago, and Gypsy suggested topiaries with flowers wired into them. Here is my thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ceremony-decor-help-pomanders-on-sheperds-hooks.88128/. I originally wanted to do pomanders on shepherd's hooks, decided that the pillars with vases would be more substantial looking and easier to DIY.

My mom just got me the book The DIY Bride and there is a cool canopy in there that looks fairly easy to make and the book claims it costs $75 to make...I would check it out if possible, the library had the book so I''m sure your local library would have it!
