Cat soothes crying baby to sleep

I think it is great to see...animals are very much in tune to humans when they are in need or sick. Our small dog always knows when we are sick and will even snuggle up to the spot that hurts, offering comfort. There instances of cats residing in nursing homes who will stay with the sickest patients...I heard of one cat who could 'predict' which elderly person would die and would stay on their bed until they passed. There is a real connection between pets and people and I think that bond should be encouraged. However, I am sure the parents would also step in and comfort the baby, and not leave it up to the cat every time the baby cries! ;))

This just confirms my theory that black cats are EXTREMELY smart. We've owned three over the years, and they are very tuned in to their humans. I think that is why they were historically associated with witches, because they seem to talk to and communicate with their owners. Ours calls me "Meh-wah" and he will come, sit, stand on his hind legs (for treats) and generally respond to whatever we say. Owning a black cat is a totally different experience than owning any other cat, they have a level of responsiveness that you don't get from other cats (in my experience, anyway). I recommend it to people considering a new kitty, just so you can see how odd it really is.

Ours is a big tom, very adept at cleaning the yard of rats. DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE EATING- GROSS ALERT! But he is gruesome! Once, he cut a rat's head off, nibbled it all around just like a collar, and placed it on our bedroom floor, right where I would see it when I woke up. It's eyes were still open! :o After being yelled at for that, he didn't bring any in, and just did horrible things to them in the yard; once he removed only the heart of one, it looked like the thing had been dissected. Another time, he peeled off a flap of skin, and finding the rat full of worms, didn't eat the rat. We have him restricted to only daylight outside time now (when the rats are asleep, it was just too gross) and he stays in the yard, except when we walk the dogs, then he follows along a few paces behind.

When he wants my attention (usually while I'm posting), he stands on his hind legs and gently taps me on the leg. He is very sweet, and will start licking you if you get close to him and purrs whenever you pick him up. He comes when you call his name.

Unless he sees a rat. ;))
 
I totally agree about them comforting the baby and not leaving the kitty to babysit all the time :lol:

My labrador is a very quiet and reserved soul. But when my 7 yr old son is sick (which is very often) she curls herself around him and only leaves him to eat or go in the garden. She seems to fuss over him until he starts to get up and move around again. Sometimes this is a few days. I adore seeing her caring for him. And he likes it too. Parents can't always sit with their children when they are sick - especially when there are other children to see to. So Blossom takes over till we come back. I love her!

Ilander.... YUK!!! I get that it is a massive gift to give your human something you caught and killed but I think I might die on the spot if my cat brought me something like that!!
 
I thought was such a sweet video. I don't see that cats are more dangerous than dogs. In fact I think the opposite may be true. DH was bite in the face by their family dog when he was six months old. At the end of the day I think parents need to be honest and aware of their pets' temper. If you have an aggressive cat/dog/bird/etc than it is the parents responsibility to protect their child. The cat was clearly NOT aggressive.
 
I totally agree about black cats. Dude was solid black and I swear he was a part of my soul. I love that this kitty helped the baby.

Yep, I also agree about black cats! My previous kitty was black and had such a great personality and was so focused on interacting with us that we decided that for our next cat we would adopt another black one, which we did and Licorice is also very much a loving, adorable, interactive cat. I think black cats have a special something about them that makes them stand out!
 
I love it.
Cats can be so intuitive. When I was a child, we had a Siamese, who always knew when we were sick, even before Mom figured it out. She'd stay right by our sides, until we felt better. I had multiple cases of strep thoat over the years, until the doctors decided to remove my tonsils. Yupen and I spent many, many hours curled up on the couch together.
 
What iLander said. Cats are much, much smarter than people give them credit for being.
