My DH has been stalking the car collector sites. He REALLY wanted an old Mustage fastback 1966... He stumbled across a Retro Mod Camaro 1697 that he hadn't studied but was really interested in....in less than a day it sold, he was crushed...he really wanted it.. I said "I know just how you feel... When "the one" gets away".... He said (unprompted) "I need a Carscope". :D he totally gets me!

He's a keeper, Mayk!!! Once they catch on to the importance of all consuming diamond/jewellry talk, then you know they are "THE ONE" !!!

OH DF in afraid to introduce him to PS and U. You also have the Watch he wants.... We looked at several in Boston including a sweet one at a place where they sell used. You could be a dangerous resource! :o

I think it is wise to be connected to a car club for that type of car and have some expert friends to help when selecting a car like that. My husband has always had old Porsches, and while he really knows a lot himself, he has friends who are in the business of restoring very valuable Porshes from around the world. So just like we know here, it is not good to walk into a store and buy a diamond ring wihtout a lot of background knowledge, and even moreso with a car because there is a lot more to know about the mechanical aspect as well as potential value down the road.

Actually DS you are correct. My DH has done a ton of research on Mustangs... Not so much about Camaros. He was brushing us when it sold. I don't know a lot but I do know a retro mod is different than a classic. We plan to drive it. Not garage it and wash it... Or I should say.. He plans to drive it... I back into the garage... His car and mine twice....

Also, if look at this listing. This guy had all his receipts. Low mileage on the new engine... And it sold in two days... It was a sweet car for a collector that wants to enjoy the muscle car look and new technology...

This is one topic I know better than jewelry! :) We have two collector cars we got sweet deals on. #1. Join and actively participate in forums about that type of car. You'll get a heads up on pending sales. #2 Attend area car meets and put the word out. Sometime people need extra money and are only willing to sell to someone who will appreciate it. #3 use search tempest to search Craigslist in other states. This is where the car forums come in - you want establish a reputation as a legit person so that you can find a mechanic to check out the car in another city(usually $50 or so - sometimes they insist on doing it for free). Once they've vouched for a car, you can put a deposit contingent on inspection. Or, like we did, take a chance since the price was so damn low! :) with car #1, we drove 600 miles to see it and set up an appt with a mechanic to do a compression test on the engine. Well, it turns out his dad was the mechanic at the local dealer when the car was purchased (by a little old lady...classic story!) and ended up fixing some stuff for free cuz he was bored. We sent him a really nice food basket to thank him! :) you make wonderful connections through cars and car forums - it's actually how I met DH!! :)

Good luck!

I think that's a great idea and you should give him a few pointers on buying diamonds  he's a quick study!

Love the pictures! Thanks for sharing. The good news is I think he found another one a 1967 RS/SS convertible that he is doing exhaustive research on right now... This should keep him too busy for watch shopping. :Up_to_something: ...for now anyway...

Im so sorry the one he wanted got away, bu believe me, it just means there's something better waiting for him and it sounds like he might have already found it. Too funny about Carscope...lol.

Good Guys is in town this weekend and we've spent the last two days at the show. Its one of the best places to find the car of your dreams for sale. All kinds and all prices.

Skippy...way before your time.. ;))

My dh just recently purchased a lovely vintage Mercedes Sl roadster - I haven't seen him much lately, apparently it's revenge for all the diamond talk and shopping over the years

And actually, I think Carscope would work - although there are many forums out there already.
